The song was sung by a woman for his lover named Leron. Leron climbed a papaya tree to harvest a good produce. When he reached the top, the branch broke (is there a branch?). The song is about a courtship but was popular to children. We have the lyrics on our grade school textbook with a papaya tree drawing on it. Below is the song performed by Brigham Young University Singers and uploaded by BYU Singers. I enjoy the song and the dynamics. I love the blending - I can hear the bass.

@JustBhem we did not sing this song. I was a member of the high school choir. We mostly sang the national anthem and doxology.

@jobelbojel I knew a group of singers who sings "kundiman". I am not really into "kundiman" but they sung it wonderfully, and made me appreciate them.

This is one of the songs I sing to my grandchildren and hopefully will make them interested in learning Tagalog ..
