Upgrade to Fiber Internet?

My internet connection at home was not reliable. I have a cable service that my provider claims to be dedicated/static. Thus, they said it's not shared so will be then reliable. Though it's just a residential account. I still need a reliable service as i have access to business critical applications when I work at home. They offered an upgrade to fiber connection which i heard is the most reliable so far. What do you guys think?

If upgrading means faster connection and more earnings from your online work, then that would be an advisable thing to do.

@Paocz28 What made you say the connection is not reliable? You should also check your computer. Sometimes the reason for the slow connection or processing is not always with the provider. Sometimes it is also because of the unit we are using.

I thought of that and I'm now computing expenses versus return income. Let me see if i can handle it.

It'll cost you more but it's faster. I wont mind paying a little bit more for that.

hehe you may ask if it can be paid monthly instead -- added on top of your monthly bill.

@Shavkat I do, and there will be days that I work at home. So it's very helpful that my connection is consistent.

We don't have a while router!! We recharge it in SIM!! It provides 4G speed probably 2-7Mbps

Mine will be 100 Mbps so it's quite a bandwidth i can consume. The reason it's also costly.

@Paocz28 that's not reason that expensive doesn't matter to us!! The reason is that we dont wnna install it! And it cost us 400 INR or $7. Recently jio h launched JIO FIBER To Home router!! It can provide same speed 100 - 130mbps!!

@mohit459 Oh i see, i'm still checking if they can give me the router for free. So in your case the modem is not something you want to install?

Fiber optic connection is faster, but I would surely not say that it is more reliable. The only sure thing is that it costs more, you will need a new router and some works done inside your house to install the fiber optic plug. We refused fiber optic, our line is stable and reliable even if not fiber. We do not need the extra speed.

@LadyDuck Thanks for the feedback Anna. You are right, the new modem and it's activation fee is an additional fee. One time fee for the activation and I can either rent or purchase the modem.
