A Memory of Fear

I remember the 1950's, when life was in its simplicity. Fun and play every single day, no thoughts of evil to come my way. Then one night when I was six, because I was the oldest, I was picked. Uncle Bob took me to his room, and changed my life from happiness to gloom. My parents didn't know of my fear, whenever Uncle Bob would come near. I took the abuse until one night, when Uncle Bob tried to grab my sister; oh what a fright. I summoned the strength to tell my Mother, who told my Dad, who almost killed his brother. It was never reported to the police, so I've lived every day with the grief. Time passes but certain memories exist, I've had so many; too many to list. Strength and perseverance is what I have, whether good or bad, happy or sad. A true story via poetry.

This is horrible, something graven in your heart and in your mind like words in stone. I am so sorry this happened to you.

@nanette64 Easy to say, impossible to do. I think that men cannot understand.

It took a long time to try to forget it @LadyDuck . My Dad said, "Get over it."

That is so sad and happens all too often. Why was it never reported to the police? You did a good job telling your story in poem.

Back in the day things like that were not reported often; due to embarrassment @just4him . I'm sure Uncle Bob turned out to be quite a pedophile. Thank you for the compliment.

It has to be a very sick human being who would go after a child that age or younger, I hope he pays for his sins somehow. I remember expecting a daughter when I was pregnant, but a son came and I was a bit relieved, because if anyone had ever done that to a daughter of mine I would have ended up in prison or worse.

A million hugs and kisses from me. It is only by strong woman like yourself speaking out that todays kids stand a chance. Too many men are protected by silence. Well done, just by this post you may have helped others (that you may not be aware of).XXX

Back in those years, it was embarrassing to the parents to report it. I'm sure Uncle Bob was a full blown pedophile and should have been stopped @dollaboy .

I can just say..I can understand... @TheHorse can you explain why such folks get away ..and what can we all do to prevent such things? I would want the person to be examined under truth serum and once proven guilty sent for rigorous imprisonment. It is bad when parents don't support or offer limited support. Parents should also not instill so much fear in the child that the child hesitates to tell the parent immediately. Somewhere we need to know how to tackle such things.
