Day 7
Song of Solomon 7
Song of Solomon 7:1 How beautiful are thy feet with shoes, O prince’s daughter! The joints of thy thighs are like jewels, the work of the hands of a cunning workman.
2 Thy navel is like a round goblet, which wants not liquor: thy belly is like a heap of wheat set about with lilies.
3 Thy two breasts are like two young roes that are twins.
4 Thy neck is as a tower of ivory; thine eyes like the fish pools in Heshbon, by the gate of Bathrabbim: thy nose is as the tower of Lebanon which looks toward Damascus.
5 Thine head upon thee is like Carmel, and the hair of thine head like purple; the king is held in the galleries.
6 How fair and how pleasant art thou, O love, for delights!
7 This thy stature is like to a palm tree, and thy breasts to clusters of grapes.
8 I said, I will go up to the palm tree, I will take hold of the boughs thereof: now also thy breasts shall be as clusters of the vine, and the smell of thy nose like apples;
9 And the roof of thy mouth like the best wine for my beloved, that goes down sweetly, causing the lips of those that are asleep to speak.
10 I am my beloved’s, and his desire is toward me.
11 Come, my beloved, let us go forth into the field; let us lodge in the villages.
12 Let us get up early to the vineyards; let us see if the vine flourish, whether the tender grape appear, and the pomegranates bud forth: there will I give thee my loves.
13 The mandrakes give a smell, and at our gates are all manner of pleasant fruits, new and old, which I have laid up for thee, O my beloved.
Love is the one thing every man and woman longs for. They want to know the person they made vows to will love them with all their heart, and be the only person for them, and their attention will never stray to someone else.
Love is intimate, it’s joyous, it finds pleasure in everything you do with your spouse.
Solomon showed that love is beautiful, intimate, something to rejoice in every day, not for a few moments, but is in everything he did with his bride. He included her in everything he did. He did not leave her behind.
As Christians, God’s love for you is the same. When he formed you in your mother’s womb, he made you perfect. His thoughts are always with you. There isn’t a moment of your day when he doesn’t think about you. There is no greater love than God’s love. He knows you as intimately as your spouse does. And he doesn’t see any flaw in you.
Psalm 139:17 How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!
18 If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee. (KJV)
When God brought you together with your spouse, he put in you all the love he has for you, and when you include God in your marriage, it is a perfect bond of unity that will last your lifetime together. Your joy in each other will grow daily. It will not diminish.
It is only when God isn’t in the marriage that love wanes and grows cold, when divorce divides you and love dies. However, that is not what God wants for you. He wants your marriage to flourish, to be intimate and beautiful. It can be when God is in your marriage.
Let’s pray: Father, thank you for showing me your love for me, and how beautiful it is, and nothing to be ashamed of, but to rejoice in. Let your love flow to me in everything I do, being faithful to the one you brought into my life. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
