Using Faith For Money

I truly find people who use other's faith or use the name of God for their own selfish schemes. I met a guy like this while I was eating at a restaurant with my family. He was handing out envelopes in every table he passes and asking for donations. My dad has issues with this kind of people and so he dared to ask the guy about why he is doing this. He said it's for their church and he is a preacher. What's funny and ironic was he couldn't even say the bible verse for the day when he was asked about it. He kept on going round and round that there are a lot of bible verses, like we don't already know that. He eventually left our table after obviously being humiliated. How could people do this? If they have an ounce of self respect, how could they use faith for their own gains? I think it's better to ask for money saying you're poor than doing these shady and awful things. Have you met people like this?

@TiarasOceanView Yes it is. I hope people stop doing that and make money without fooling people and lying to them.

Well lucky for you. They are really frustrating and it extremely riles me up that they use the name of the Lord for their own gains. I mean, why can't they just find a respectable job? They exchange their own dignity, integrity and faith for money? I respect those poor people who ask for money on the streets more than them, at least they're honest about their situation and those who give money to them know where their alms would go.

I agree, it seems like these awful people are present all around the world. They really give having a thick skin a whole new meaning.

One guy in Berkeley saw my baseball cap and told me that He had a school us full of handicapped baseball player kids down the road and needed the money for gas. I guess he had a different story for each person he begged from.

People will do anything for money. I've never experienced that. I wonder if he had permission from the restaurant to do that? I guess he must have but I think that's bad for business. I also think your father was right for questioning him. People like that need to be humiliated, if he was, in fact, a fraud.

@JeeyanDee I'm like that too, to a point. If someone speaks to me directly I'd confront them. But I'm old and I think I get more outspoken with age. Although, I've never been one to keep my mouth shut. hahaha I live in a more rural area so I wouldn't expect to see anything like that here. And I agree - I have more respect for someone on the street asking for money because they're broke and/or homeless. You have to respect their honesty and at least allow them some dignity in spite of their situation. God's wrath - some people will never believe it until they see it.

Yes, my dad is really like that. If he knows people are talking crap, he'll have to do something to point that out. I am like that too in a way, but he's worse than me. Plus, it's God we're talking about, isn't he afraid of His wrath? Well, I am. The restaurant was by the seaside and no guards were present at that time, so we had no one to complain to. I cannot imagine having to sell your dignity, integrity and faith for money.I respect people who ask money on the streets more than them, at least they're honest about their situation.

@deazil Saying nothing despite disagreeing is such a big no no to me. We can disagree to other people and still be respectful. You're right, a lot don't believe in God's wrath, but if I were them, better to be safe than sorry. They could at least believe in karma right?

Yes I've met a lot of people like that. I see a lot of so called preachers misuse faith to get rich.A while back I was watching the show American Greed i think and it was showing many people scheming people millions of dollars using faith and religions. It was really said when an elderly lady invested $150,000 which were here whole life savings and wasn't able to recover not one penny back. Greed like that makes people who already struggling with faith and money not have faith anymore :(

Yes I very much agree with you. You kniw what I think though? These kind of people really don't believe in their faith, because if they do, why would they commit these kind of evil things and lie and fool other people? I have met quite a few people who have lost and are losing faith because of these preachers. Instead of protecting and defending their church, what they're doing is the opposite. Aren't they afraid of karma?

I hope they realize that what they're doing is not right before it's too late, and they can no longer repent.
