The latest reports it looks like it is going straight up Florida reaching each of the coasts. We have been trying to find a hotel but so far nothing here and we are now looking in Georgia.
This one looks like it is going to be worse than last year. Then we stayed at my friends on the west coast but now they are saying it can affect both sides.

I have a nephew that lives in St. Thomas, Virgin islands. He planned to ride it out but I have not heard anything for days now.

I think the Virgin Islands are going to take a direct hit from Irma; it's not looking good for them. But they are used to hurricanes, and the residents there will be prepared and ready.

@peavey Thank you. We will still be staying in Florida but going to the west side where it doesn't look so bad yet. My girlfriend lives there and has a home build with bricks and cinder blocks. Where I live everything is built with wood so I don't think things will hold up so great here.

@TiarasOceanView I am to and as the days are going by and my husband wants to wait till the very end of the week as it doesn't look so bad near us yet, my insides are starting to go and I am getting some things together and will insist we leave tomorrow.

As of 7:00pm tonight (Tuesday), the Hampton Inn on SW 40th in Gainesville had rooms available for Friday and Saturday, but not Sunday and Monday. The University of Florida has a home football game scheduled for this Saturday, and if officials end up cancelling the game due to the hurricane, thousands of football fans who have hotel rooms booked will cancel them, which means there will be more hotel rooms available on Friday and Saturday nights.

I pray the hurricane won't affect you guys. I'm praying it won't hit the Carolinas, either since we're in NC and our children are on the coast of SC.

Irma looks pretty nasty and I hope you can find something and get out of there before it hits. Stay safe!
