We all decided to cancel the trip

My parents and husband and I had scheduled a trip to Gulf Shores Alabama, starting in the next day for 1 week. But, after really watching the weather reports and seeing how big Hurricane Irma is and how it is looking like it will hit Florida and possibly the Gulf of Mexico, we cancelled.
This storm is nearly a Category 5 , if it hadn't already hit that. The whole State of Florida is under warning. The Governor of Florida already has declared a State of Emergency.
I pray that all our MyLot members who live in Florida will be ok, if it hits directly.
You do think we made the right choice to cancel? That Alabama beach is so close to Florida.

I think you made the right decision. I wouldn't go either.

I agree, one of my worst fears is getting caught in a storm like that and being in a traffic jam trying to get out of places under warning.

@LeaPea2417 No doubt not anywhere I would like to be during a storm like that.

Yes! I am in Alabama and I have been on the beach when a storm was coming, the town will close down and board up. The beaches will be closed due to the waves sucking outward, it not a fun time at all. MOST all of the towns in the line will CLOSE. No one allowed in and all lanes on both sides of the interstate heading out. I have family in P.C. Florida so I have seen this many times before.

I am sure it is a scary time. Being caught in a long line of traffic is one of my worst nightmares.

That is the last place I would go that's for sure. My friends were to leave tom. for Pensacola and cancelled.

@LeaPea2417 Now it looks like it won't go that far west...but it's best to avoid the whole area.

From all the weather models going around online, it looks like , if the main part didn't hit it, part of it could, which could still be dangerous.

Oh no. I hope Florida will be alright. I think it was disappointing, but the right choice to cancel

I think you're smart to cancel. Better safe than sorry. Irma looks really nasty
