Islanders at the Mercy of Hurricane Irma

I was just reading an article about how St. Martin and Barbuda Islands were pummeled by Hurricane Irma, and it got me to thinking about living on a small island, with nowhere to go further inland, and having to face the threat of a major hurricane.
At least people in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, etc., have somewhere to go that doesn't involve taking a plane to the mainland. I don't know if the people who live on these islands (not vacationers) have the means to take a plane, but I'm imagining that many of them were just stuck waiting and hoping that the storm wouldn't be too destructive. Of course, it was very destructive, as there was at least 20 people killed by the hurricane and much destruction of property.
I'm now keeping the other places that are in the path of Hurricane Irma in my heart and thoughts.
Do you have a loved one who's having to evacuate or is unable to evacuate in the wake of the hurricane?

WE have until the end of November for the season to end so chances are there will be more. Hopefully they will weaken before making landfall so that they wont have such an impact.

Being on an island waiting for a hurricane is not a pleasant thought. I would get out before the storm hit, but there are always people that can't or won't for various reasons.

@gtdoss It is like we are all living on the edge just waiting to see what will happen next in this crazy hurricane season. I am concerned about my relatives in Florida and cannot wait for the weekend to pass. It is said that "lightening never strikes the same place twice" but I don't know how believable that is right now. Some of the islands that were devastated by Irma are now bracing for Jose, all this in just a few days apart.
