We are headed back to Florida

My husband and I are staying overnight in North Carolina as we are on our way back to Florida. We left before Irma arrived. We have no idea what to expect as all our neighbors evacuated when we did. We did hear from the manager of our community but he didn't go into many details. I really hate not knowing what to expect..We have about ten more hours of driving which keeps the mind thinking the worst.

Marie, how are you and your family doing? Was there any damage to your property?

@Tampa_girl The house is okay but the car port was half destroyed and still hanging down. We did have someone here to view it and we are waiting for the ok to get it fixed. Everything takes so much time when waiting for the okay.

I hope your home is okay! I have heard that some of the highways are still a mess, so I hope you don't run into trouble there

The highways were awful leaving here and it took us 3 days to get where we were headed. We stopped 2 nights in a hotel as it was crazy on the roads and we needed sleep. It was stop and go all the way from Florida to New Jersey.

I can sense how anxious you are and I would have felt the same way if I were in your situation, not knowing what to expect. Hope your house is fine.

Thank you. The only issue besides losing lots of my shrubs and plants was part of the car port is all in pieces. We are waiting for the repair man to come and fix it.

It could have been a lot worse for us but the houses up the street lost half of their houses or roofs.

Luckily we only had part of the carport in shreds but compared to the people down the street that lost part of their houses, we are not complaining at all.

I hope you have made it home by now, Nancy, and everything is fine there. Yes, I remember about the carport, but I am hoping the damage is minor.

The carport is half down and we had somewhere here already that will fix it when the insurance company says we can.

Thank you. The only damage is the car port which is hanging from the top waiting for the man to come and fix it.

Please take care and drive carefully. It is hard to return home after such events. Please think positive and let us know how you are and if everything is fine when you arrive home.
