Some People Are So Selfish

My sister in law came to see me three days ago because her dog was sick. She said that her dog was constipated and hadn’t gone to the bathroom in 2 days. When I went to go see the dog it wasn’t constipated but had the Parvovirus. I told her to get this dog to the vet immediately. She asked for the vet’s phone number and I gave her his card. She came back crying to me that the vet asked her for 30 dollars to treat her dog. I said that is not expensive considering what other vet’s on the island charge. Do you know what she told me? I need to pay for my vacation with my church and I don’t want to use my money on the dog. I will just go and get some papaya seeds and give this to he dog. I almost exploded and said do as you wish but your dog has the Parvovirus and it will die if you don’t get him to the vet soon. She wanted me to take the dog and pay for it. I refused. I told her I have 6 of them here and I don’t want to pay for your dog. You need to ask your brother for his help because his dog will be sick soon. Needless to say her dog died a horrible death and she did nothing to stop this from happening. When I saw her this morning all she could say was OH WELL. What Oh well. Her dog was a Bichon Lulu which is like my dogs except it is a bit larger. She had a beautiful dog and when she first got it I wanted to take it from her. Now I wished that I had. There are some people who are so selfish and take an animal only to make money off this animal. She used her dog for breeding to earn money off the dog. What was sad she never took care of this dog and it was a mess. It always had skin infections, the hair was ratted and it was never cleaned. There are some people who should never have an animal. I was so angry when I heard this today? How do you feel about a person who neglects their animal? It makes me mad.

To treat parvo over here costs hundreds and hundreds of dollars. Your sister in law doesn't deserve to have a dog and I hope she never gets another one. That's horrible.

You are so right Abby. When my boyfriend brought Nita home at night he was infested with fleas. The next morning I started cleaning the dog and realized he was also sick. I immediately took the dog to the vet and he had the Parvovirus. I had him in the vet's for 7 days to save his life. It cost me 450 dollars to do this. I didn't care. He was just a small puppy and my boyfriend fell in love with him and wanted him. I would do anything in my power to save this dog's life. We have had Nita now 8 years and he is a good dog. I am so glad I did this.

What kind of woman would allow her dog to die, because of a $30 vet charge? She's a witch!

I have no idea. The vet here that I was sending her too is a clinic. It is so much cheaper than the vet I took my dog to 7 years ago when my boyfriend brought him home infested with fleas and had the Parvovirus. I spent 450 dollars to have him treated and spend 7 days at the vet's. I was so angry and I still can't believe she did this.

I hope she never gets another pet ever, she's not the kind of person I would trust with one. I hate the parvovirus, it only takes 3 days to kill a dog.

That's great @poehere Parvo is a fast acting virus but if you get the pup to a vet early it can be cured.

When you get a pet it is part of your family and you should take care of it like a family member. The way she treated the dog was wrong.

You are so right. It was my boyfriend that built the gated area for her dog. She threw it in there and never went in there to clean it. Her dog would lie in the dirt and she would never even bath the dog. It was so sad to see this dog I could no longer look at it.

That is how I felt when she told me. I was so angry I just walked away. I had nothing to say to her about this. I just told her if you don't want the other one to die you better get her to the vet immediately. You had one die of Parvovirus and this other one will have it in a few days. She said that wasn't her dog and she could care less. But when the money was coming in for breeding and selling the puppies she was so happy to take it and spend it. I am at a loss of words when it comes to this. I am so angry and I told my best friend about this. She was so mad. She loves dogs like me and that is where I have gotten 2 of my dogs from.

That is so sad. I don't keep pets because I know that I do not have the time to give them the care they deserve. She didn't care about that dog - she only wanted it for breeding purposes.

You are so right. The problem is I don't want to pay for her dog. I pay a lot of money for the 6 dogs I have. They each need the heart worm shot every 3 months here on the island. That is 32 dollars for each dog. Then once a year is their yearly vaccination and that is 52 dollars each for the dogs. I just had 2 of them fixed and that was another 220 dollars. My friend just gave me a baby and the shots for her was 150 dollars. I think I don't need to pay for another person and their animal. I take good care of my dogs so they don't get sic, They have all been vaccinated for the Parvovirus and I am safe here for me.

Dogs should be vaccinated against parvo to make sure they don't get the viral disease. Once dogs are infected all the vets could do is prevent dehydration, lower fever, make the immune system strong and prevent secondary infection. Mortality rate is high and even if the dog survives there is no guarantee there would be no permanent damage like what happened to mine before. Prevention or vaccination is still the most important thing, costs only around 6 dollars in our country. She should have brought the dog to give it a fighting chance, 30 dollars is very cheap when a dog is already infected.

Oh my gosh, that's insane and so sad!! Even I could afford $30 if that's all it costed here, and I'm nowhere near well off. Sadly here its hundreds of dollars for the treatment. I hope she never gets another pet in her life, that's awful.

Our vet's here are good and they will do all they can to cure a dog with the Parvovirus. The shot for her dog because it just started to get sick was 30 dollars. She would of been given some medication to take home for the dog. I am so angry and mad at what she did. I really don't have any respect for her again after seeing and hearing this one.

That is awful! I get real angry when I hear of people who don't take care of their pets and people who abuse animals. It is true as you say, some people should never have an animal. If a person wants one, they sure as better realize what a responsibility it is to have one.

@poehere That is so evil to want to drown baby kittens. Do you know when the cat will give birth? If so, maybe you can ask your brother in law if you can have the kittens.. Then you could give them away to people who would give them a good home. Maybe you would want to keep one yourself.

@LeaPea2417 Please this one is way too much for me to handle. I am already over extended with all the dogs I have, a cat and rabbits. I don't have time to be here to feed baby cats ever hour on the hour. I personally don't think my sister in law will let this one happen. I think it is just him and having a big mouth that he has. I have way too many animals right now at my home to even think about taking another one in. I don't want anymore.

You are so right. My brother in law and sister in law had a stray cat adopt them. Now the cat is waiting babies and I heard my brother in law say when they are born he will throw them in the river. This makes me so angry. I couldn't say anything and just walked away.

I realize that she is your sister but she should never and I mean never own an animal. I usually don't say things like that. I also don't say that I own my dogs cause I think of them as family. But legally I do. That means that when our Leah dog's knees ripped out, I took her to the Vet and if we had not had the money to care for her, I would have put her down. Mercy comes first before my feelings. Anyway, I am sorry to sound mean and nasty. You have told your sister that she was not doing well by her dog?

@poehere Thanks. If we can't afford to help an animal and its suffering, I will scream and cry but I will do the right thing by him or her. Allowing an innocent to hurt and be in misery is just not at all a way to go. I wish you well with your sister. Her actions must make it hard for you to be near her.

No yuo do not sound mean or nasty at all. You should of heard what I said. I was so angry. She is my boyfriend's sister and it made me so angry when she did this. I have spent so much money on my dogs it isn't even funny. I had to have one dog back hip joint replaced and she had some tumors I had removed. I feel the same as you do. If you can't take care of them like family don't own one. I have 6 dogs and I pay out a lot of money each year to get them shots and take care of them. I agree totally with what you are saying.

This is my sister and brother in law. That is the only reason each one of them took a dog. One has the female and the other the male they use these dogs for monetary gain only. I think my brother in laws dog has already had 7 litters of puppies and he wanted to breed her again. Now the male is gone he can't use his dog anymore.

@poehere Here (at least in Washington state) if it is found someone is abusing an animal (and the conditions you state she left the dog in the pen would be considered abuse) that animal is taken away from the owner and the owner will face a fine or jail time or both.

What a sad, horrible story. I hope you don't mind me saying this, but she seems to be a horrible person as well. To allow a dog to suffer like that is sadistic, and very selfish. Over here in the States, a person like that could get arrested for animal cruelty. She is obviously not responsible enough to own any more dogs. Maybe you might want to tell her that. One other thing I noticed is that she wanted to use you to get you to take care of it. Please don't allow her to do that. I am so sorry you had to deal with her.

You are not bad to say this at all, because this is the way I feel. Here we are a small island and they don't have the resources to check on all the animals here so this can happen quite often. I just know about this one because my sister in law lives up front from us and she came to see me.
