Irmas Rampage Through Georgia

Governor Deal has toured the state of Georgia from the mountains to The Georgia and Florida state line seeing some of the hardest hit areas thanks to hurricane Irma. He has seen felled trees and blocked roads in the mountains, wrecked docks and flooded areas on the coast and power outages all over the state. He said the state will provide tax relief to Irmas victims. There's no estimate to the cost of clean up but appeals have been made to the federal governmental for financial help. Irma killed at least two people in Georgia and knocked out power to one and a half million people. Downed trees closed roads. Clean up crews are working to bring everything back to normal. Sadly some homes are too damaged to save.

Its the best thing to do for public officials to visit the place so they personally see the damage and know what to do to help the community

I think so. He saw the damage himself and what's needed to help.

It's so sad what Irma did to so many people and homes. =( There are people here still without power. One lady's house has been condemned, she was renting so she has to find a new home because of the damage.

Florida sustained more damage than Georgia. I feel so sorry for everyone with damaged and destroyed homes. I'm glad you and your family were safe.

I'm glad you didn't suffer to much yourself, but I continue to pray for those who lost homes and loved ones, and who were injured. I can't even imagine what it would be like to suddenly have everything gone. Unfortunately even when one has the money to make the repairs, they still take time. And the stress must be terrible.

@RubyHawk I'm especially concerned about the elderly who are not strong and have no one to help them -- especially if they have no children to help them through this.

It really did, ripping through the islands and through Florida and Georgia. think it had almost lost strength when it left Georgia.

@LadyDuck I believe the most damage in Georgia was along the coast and South Georgia. But the cleanup isn't finished here yet. So many downed trees and power outages.

Mississippi was very blessed and Irma had lost all its strength by the time it got to us.

People having damage should be aware of shady characters offering house repairs. People will be ripped off.

Yes it was, it sounds like the cleanup will take weeks. As I understand it crews are working to remove fallen trees an get power on. I suppose damaged homes will be up to the owners.
