Stirring the pot

It is sad but it seems like there are a few characters here on MYlot who are on a crusade to stir the pot of racism. These people have a message to disseminate and are using mylot to express their racist sentiments usually in a semi covert way. They point to controversial links with the intention of starting controversial debates which usually attack one ethnic group. What shocks me is how many other mylotters engage this kind of rhetoric by adding their 2 cents to the posts. Of course my response is no response. Once I identify these pot stirrers I avoid their posts ad even those who subscribe to their hate with their comments. I refuse to help anyone make money who are bent on stirring up hate.

No response seems good enough to me. If I did respond, they'd probably block me anyway, and then I'd be frustrated at having to read their words here and there whilst being denied the opportunity to respond should I feel the need - locking me into the only options available: "Like" (!!) or "Report". Guess which I'd probably choose... Thanks @Rebelann for the Suggestion.

You're probably right about that, people don't write stuff like that to get honest opinions, they want people to agree with them. I'm guessing that's how hate mobs got their start in the "good" ole days. You are welcome @pgntwo

@Freelanzer The cent makes sense, another very valid point to adopt a policy of ignoring such posts.

One reason I don't respond because I am sure I will be blocked plus why give them the extra penny which they obviously need since they seem to have all the time in the world to spew hate.

If you think that someone is purposely making racist or otherwise discriminatory remarks, then you should report that post (you should be aware that reporting is completely anonymous and that only you and Admin knows that the post was reported unless you tell someone else.). Admin will then look at it. Without the watchful eyes of members, Admin can't hope to see all posts which might violate the Guidelines.

That is good to know. I guess I hesitate to report because I feel I will be seen as a complainer and no action will be taken anyway. I can only speak to posts that make me feel attacked because of my ethnicity but Admin may see it in a different light. Anyway good advice.

Luckily those who write those kinds of posts are in the minority. I guess one would be more aware of them if it attacks their specific group.

Yes I read that one and I commented. Maybe I should not have but I did. I know so many people of all races and I do find that there is always one that is wanting to be the center of attention in any race. Maybe even the author of that said discussion?! AND when some people call me racist they are SOOOO wrong. I will debate with my friends of different races on why they feel like they do and why I feel like I do. Nothing is one sided ever. A few weeks ago I was called a racist because I live in Alabama by a black lady that does not know me at all. I think if this discussion offends you, just report it.

I am not quick to call anyone racist but I am a knowledgeable, and I think, educated woman who is able to read something and determine very easily whether it is intended to demean or uplift a specific group, especially when I see a pattern by the same persons repeated over and over. I think there are better things we can do with our time and energy to make the world a better place than constantly attack specific groups by name in a negative way. I come to mylot to escape the crazy world out there so I just don't want to feel unsafe here and no one should have to feel they are under attack.

The words of our mouths is what condemns us and tells people who we are. Ever wonder why there is a "right to remain silent"? Maybe because humans always put there foot in their mouth.

I see that on Facebook but I don't think it should be here on MyLot. This is a place for all of us who want to get away from all that bull and chill and enjoy ourselves. And racism is unfortunately alive in this country. That I find sad in the 21st century.

@Freelanzer - Oh OK. I understand. I had a friend who said that she left this site because of racist attacks. But I have found this to be a recurring problem at many of these social sites. I love to a good vigorous discussion dealing with sensitive topics where opposing points of view are presented. But that's the not the same as being rude and nasty and trying to cause trouble. If I had to agree with everybody on everything I would not have any friends. I wouldn't even be married. My husband and I disagree a lot! We have differing views on the United Nations, for example. He's entitled to his view but he couldn't convince me to change my mind. I like discussions on politics, religion, Donald Trump , etc. But not to cause trouble. I really want to hear “another voice” besides my own. It's gets boring talking to yourself all the time.

I am not talking about personal attacks but about a more generalized attack on specific ethnic or religious groups or any other groups. I would welcome a personal attack as I am fully capable of dealing with that. But cowards usually attack, often covertly, an entire group because it is easier to stir up resentment for that group as a whole rather than an individual.

I am not so excited to read all this either. It seems it appears on here and when you go back in a few weeks it is deleted. After a few weeks more it comes back. I think that this should be one topic added to the no discussion lists here. My father raised all of us to love everyone and treat everyone like equals. In my eyes everyone is equal to another person and nobody is better or worse than another person.

I am such a happy person. I am also a kind person who since I was a little girl have always worked to make the lives of others better. So it boggles my mind that people will come to a place where I often find refuge and covertly and openly say things that serve only to devalue certain groups. These people must live very unfulfilled, unhappy lives and it is so sad.

@Freelanzer You are so right. My dad always believed like you do. He taught us that being a racist and always talking about people like they were lower than us was so wrong. He said that if everyone who claimed they were so religious actually practiced what they preached the world would be a better place. He never understood the religious wars or why one group of people was picked on all the time. He told me one time he wished he had been born blue and was wondering what the reaction of the world would be around him. I had to laugh. My dad was so good at making thing funny even when it was so sad like this. My dad use to say there is no need to look at the color of a person's hair, eyes or skin. Look at their heart it is always red. Everyone is red in our eyes because of their heart. He said judge a person by their heart and nothing else. He was so right. Always look at the heart and you will always find the best in everyone.

I'm just now getting more active, so I haven't seen anything and since I primarily view my friend's posts, I am guessing these discussions are people I don't know. But this is something you would get whenever a large gathering of people are, yet I wonder if MyLot has guidelines against that (I have to reread the rules again) because then these posts can be removed.
