How to continue interaction here on mylot?

As many mylotters are aware that we earn here through interaction, which we make on our discussions. When starting a new post, I find that most of the mylotters interact and sometimes the interaction/conversation keeps on going for a long time. Some of us (specially newbies) may be introvert or shy and they may not have very clear ideas how to keep the interaction/conversation going with fellow mylotters. It is very simple - as you do in your day to day conversation, you could follow the same principles here. You need to ask questions on comments of the mylotters. You need to clarify your doubts about any word/phrase or sentence (some of the mylotters make brief comments, which sometimes need further clarifications). Asking relevant question related with the post is one of the key factors to keep the conversation going. Alternatively, one may share similar experiences about the contents of the post/subject matter. Also, while asking questions, let us be polite and kind and show due respect to each other. I hope the above will help those, who are looking for tips to continue interaction (read conversation) here on mylot discussions. Thanks for reading this post. Image courtesy - Google

Many new users think that the important is to write discussions. They do not even take the time to reply, they got everything wrong about this site.

Yeah, you are very right that I've also observed that some of the new users keep starting new discussions (sometimes on trivial issues) and do not post their comments on the responses received. When they do not earn this way, they leave the site and run away.

@LadyDuck I also noticed that. Sometimes I feel hesitant to write something on their discussions.

very good advice, I noticed that if I input question at the end of my discussion, I will receive at least 8 responses, that shows interactions with the members

I am glad to hear that you have already been following tips suggested by me and you have succeeded in eliciting more responses, if you put a question at the end of your discussion. Keep it up.

Good advice. With a little effort it isn't too hard to extend conversations - either in real life or on myLot.

@Bodyandbrain I did not make it lengthy deliberately but I think had I cut it short I would not have been able to put across my message properly, which I intended to convey through this discussion. How many minutes did it take for you to go through the discussion?

Yes, I agree that asking questions can really be a good way of making readers respond to our posts. I always use that as endings to my post, so that others who can relate can share their stories too.

I saw a discussion today where although there were many comments the author hadn't responded to any of them. I wonder how long the average person takes to reply to comments on his discussion. I try and do mine as soon as possible.

It is not fair on the part of author of a discussion to not to respond to comments. Sometimes, I also become late in responding, but I see to it that no response/comment is left unattended. I believe that mylotters spend time to respond/comment to my posts, therefore, I must reply them back.

@dpk262006 It would be nice and a lot of people tell me that you will never be able to change people and the way they are. So if they don't want to learn, read, or listen there isn't much we can do. Just hope that is all.

I think if you find that anyone is not interacting or not commenting to your post, you could avoid that particular mylotters, irrespective of the fact whether s/he is a veteran her or newbie.. It takes two hands to clap.

I have always felt that mylot is like going to a party. You donĀ“t stay in a group where only one person talks The same happens here. I read and answer posts from several friends. I interact with those that interact with me.

I understand your point. Making comments on posts depends upon availability of time and other factors (e.g. our mood). On any given day when you don't feel like commenting, you could let it go and could do it later.

Whether it be on this site or elsewhere, I have come across long comment threads in discussions. It's a great thing when two people can keep a conversation going and going and going. Sometimes though, it seems like they aren't really saying anything important or of value, especially when the comments are short generic words or phrases, and the conversation should have ended a long time ago. Makes me wonder why they keep on going.

You see expanding conversation or continuing conversation is an art and it takes two to tango. You are right that if third person happens to see it, s/he should find some relevance in the thread, which sometimes does not happen.
