Hi there - it's your favorite post where you get 2 movie reviews in 1 post! Well maybe not. But I'm still going to write about 2 movies that make me think of each other, that being 2 of my all time favorite movies, "Blade Runner" and "Dune". Alright. Maybe I'm cheating slightly. I don't know how similar these actually are other than they are made close in time to each other (early 80s) and they make me feel similar... they're both sci-fi, and that's about it . About "Blade Runner" (1982, year I was born, yo!) - So the story of "Blade Runner" was based off of a work by Philip K. Dick called "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep". I have read that book, and the movie only touches a very small amount of what all is in the book. I digress. It's many years in the future. Earth has been devastated. Only the lowest sort of people live on Earth anymore - because we have made other planets habitable. And we have done this largely with the help of convincingly human looking androids called replicants. Replicants are illegal on Earth, as they occasionally go rogue and start hunting people. If a replicant is found on earth they are "retired" (killed) by a special faction of the police called blade runners. Harrison Ford plays one such blade runner. A group of 4 replicants is running around. They are trying to find their maker and designer - to learn how to "live" longer. The prestigious Tyrell. The movie makes you question who really is replicant and what does it mean to be human. Dune (1984) : Again, many years in the future. Space travel has become possible due to the substance called "spice". "Spice" is only found on one dry, dusty planet called "Dune". There are many galaxies at war for control of "Dune" and it's spice. However valuable the spice is - the natives of the planet "Dune" are mistreated and exploited. Until one day, a prince from one of the galaxies royal houses takes control in a most daring way. There are fascinating characters along the way, warring intergalactic royals... "The Spice must flow" Here is the trailer for "Dune" :

Even the 'Sabrina' (1995)? or 'Six days Seven nights' (1998)?

@sol_cee too much of kissing and bad romance, a bit like a wet rag to me in the first. You should watch the first Sabrina with Audrey Hepburn to see why the second one was . The 6 days 7 nights at least has some actions in it. Regardless, I don't like seeing HIM kissing a too much younger girl.

You and me both, it seems. Come on Eileen, by Dexy's Midnight Runners, was in the charts here that summer of 82. Madness released Our House in 82 too...
A bona fide British pop anthem, 'Our House' reached #5 in the UK singles chart and was Madness's biggest hit in the USA when it was released in 1982. The vid...

@bluesa Me too! I wonder which one I will prefer... though something tells me that it will still be the older one for me on account of Rutget Hauer

@FayeHazel isn't it that dune is like a small desert?

@ridingbet Yeah - that is one of the word meanings. (Eg. a sand dune - being an outcropping of sand in an otherwise green area) , in the movie / book they took it to be the nickname for the entire desert planet.

Shocking! I haven't watched this 'Blade Runner' before... I have 'Dune' in my collection I think, not so sure if it is the TV series one or the movie.

Oh the TV series of Dune was pretty good too - more content, though I like the cast better in the movie, personally

I found it very hard to follow Dune, both book and film(s). On the other hand, Bladerunner the film, in its many different releases, is a great film - although I have never read the original book, I must admit. Good post.

Interesting! I have always loved "Dune" the movie - though I tried the audiobook format for it and I just couldn't get into it. You might really enjoy the "Do Andriods Dream of Electric Sheep" book then -- though it is so very different, so much more content than the movie, that it barely resembles it.

@FayeHazel I shall perhaps seek out a copy of the book on which Bladerunner is based - worth a shot!

You had some interesting actors cast in Dune. Kyle Mac Lachlan of Twin Peaks fame another sci-fi type TV show. Patrick Stewart from Star Trek sci-fi movies. Max von Sydow from Star Wars The Force Awakens and The Exorcist. And then, Sting, a musician from the Police. That is some casting

Oh yeah - great cast for sure in "Dune". I don't know his name, but I liked whoever played Baron Harkonnen - and Jurgen Prochnow (as Duke Leto Atreides) -- the latter of which a distant relation of mine
