The answer is YES!
Regardless of what phone are you using, like iPhones or Android, you can charge them overnight. That's the reason why they called SMART phones because they are wise enough to stop charging on their own when they reach 100 %. So meaning there is no such thing as overcharging - unless you are using fake phones.
Reminders :
If you want to have a lifetime battery, don't charge it if it's below 20% or 10% then charge it to 100%, it will destroy your battery right away.
I hope this information helps us a bit.
Sunday here and have a good morning.

They actually do overcharge, and its not safe as phones get too hot sometimes when charging. Thankfully it hasnt happened to me and i learned to unplug my phone once im actually ready to shut my eyes but it has happened to people i know.
Also, i also charge my phone when it's under 20% and my phone and its battery have both lasted 2years.
All phones are different. Some will get ruined while others wont. No way to tell if yours will or not.

"If you want to have a lifetime battery, don't charge it if it's below 20% or 10% then charge it to 100%, it will destroy your battery right away." I'm not sure what that means, please explain?

@JustBhem Sorry for being a Are you saying that we should charge it before it gets to 20% or lower? Let's say I charge it before it gets to 50%. Let's say that it is at 70%, is it better to charge it and it will not harm the battery?

I haven't tried charging my phone from 70% or 50%, so I cannot tell.
I only charge my phone if it gets 20% or 10%. But I think it's okay.
If you did that and you still have a working battery then it's okay. Right?

I always feel very guilty when I start charging at night, fall asleep and I awaken to see it is at 100 percent, I feel it would eventually damage the battery. However, the fact that this has happened many times and the battery is still going strong, shows that what you say is correct.

I don't do this. It ruins not just the battery but the phone as well.

True never let your batteries low beyond 20% and never charge over 80% because you have completed the 100% mark one cycle is complete. Meaning your battery has a life of certain cycles after that its gives up and every time you reach 100% one cycle is finished.

Nice update from Op, I charged my phone mostly overnight cos I am so sure once it get to 100% it will stop charging but most time I top it when it 45% though I am trying to restrict myself from recharge above 30% to allow the battery last longer

minders : If you want to have a lifetime battery, don't charge it if it's below 20% or 10% then charge it to 100%, it will destroy your battery right away. I don't quite understand. did you mean i shouldnt charge it until the battery is out of light

From many provider of smart phones they tell you not to charge over night because of battery over charging and plus it kills battery totally life. Also there is phones that tells you to unhook when its fully charge to save power and damage on battery phone.
