Why do you like Golden Retrievers?

Golden Retrievers are so beautiful. They have very intelligent faces. The truth is, they can be pretty goofy. I love them because they are generally a friendly and trusting breed. They are very loyal dogs and protective of their families. Their faces are really expressive so you can tell if they are happy or sad. In general they have a reputation for being relatively smart, but most of them that I have met are just kind of ditzy. I prefer blond ones to dark brown or red ones, but they are all beautiful.

I "rescued" a golden from a family that wasn't exactly taking care of her. She is WONDERFUL with my 2 kids (a 1 yr. and a 2 yr. old). Although, she can forget what she's doing and sometimes she steps on my 1 year old (she gets too excited.. lol) So far I've had a Dalmatian, a JRT and Sable, my golden. Out of all of them I would def. say I'd get another golden retriever.

Well ya know.. if they're blonde they're supposed to be ditzy! lol I think they have an aloofness that makes them appear sort of ditzy, while they secretly are very intelligent. You cannot look into a retrievers eyes and not fall in love. If I could harness that power... wow.. I could be married to Marty Brodeur right now! LOL

I own a beautiful Golden Retriever named Lucy. We bought her from an amazing breeder in June and I am SO amazed at what a great dog she is. We have a nine month old son and she absolutely adores him. Every time he's on the floor, she'll lay next to him and put her head by his. It's so precious!
I highly recommend Golden Retrievers to anyone. They are an amazing family dog and wonderful for children!

I totally agree. I have a five year old, female Golden Retriever named Katie. She's something else. She's like, no is, a member of our family.
She's very smart, loyal, and very loving.
We had a horrible scare when she was young. Mind you, she had all her shots up to date so I was thrown when she sick and was diagnosed with Parvo. She had to have blood tranfusions and everything. When we first took her in the vet told me that it was gong to cost a lot of money and I had to pay a huge amount up front to start treatment and the remainder of the amount once she was better, and the vet also said that even though we spend all this money and treat her she could still die. She said it was my choice, to have her humanely uthinized or to treat her, she would be hospitalized for several days if not longer and need a transfusion.... I looked down at my dog and her sad eyes looked up at me, almost knowing her life hung in the balance. My husband said we couldn't afford treatment...and was avid about it...but I stood my ground...and when she looked up at us...he also agreed to go ahead and treat her. But truthfully, I would have argued and paid the amount anyway!
She was in the hospital for 8 days. When we went back to visit her, they had her walking down the hallway with an IV stand being pulled behind her...it was like a human being in the hospital...walking with their IV for daily exercise!
She lived through it and survived! And has paid me back a hundred times over with loyalty, love, and companionship!
She thinks she's human anyway!
She's one of my children....and she's my girl!

I always tell Maxxx he's Mommy's dog. He is my baby boy. I'm so glad your baby is ok now. It's worth the trouble for sure. I had a dog with bad cough and distemper. It cost me over 300 in treatments to make her well. She never even had any problems with respiration after that for the rest of her life. Her name was Sunshine. She was mixed golden, collie, and samoyed. Rest her precious doggy soul.

My friend used to breed Goldens, purebreds. They were nice. But I have to say I still prefer mutts of any kind. We rescued Maxxx from the shelter and we liked him because he looked Golden, but he is obviously not pure. And he chose my son. He was just sitting at the bottom of his cage while all the dogs were yapping. But when he saw my son he started to wag his tail and smile. That is how Maxxx chose my son.

I like them ok (One of our 5 dogs is a rescued F1 Golden/Aussie mix!) but I think they are much more hyper and much less easy to train than people think. Same with labs.
I have worked with dogs for a long time and I prefer a smarter, less hyper breed, lol.

The intelligence of the Golden Retriever can vary alot from dog to dog. They tend to learn the things that they need to know in their individual lives from my own experiences. If you read above, you will see where someone and myself agree, they are too busy happy at times to be as obedient as people think they are. The thing is, a lot of smarts and obedience depend on the owner too. You really need to be willing with this or any dog to take the time to train the dog and YOURSELF.
