Limit the use of screens (i.e. phones, tablets, computers, tv, etc) an hour or more before bed. That's what I've read but it is easier said than done. Also tea, hot bath, meditation sometimes works for some people.

@HeavenlyB I myself don't do meditation frequently but here's an article I found that describes four methods:

Do exercise before you go to sleep, when you are tired you can fall asleep fast.

@HeavenlyB any simple exercise like jumping jack, running at own place, not heavy exercise at all.

We all go through phases like that. The best thing to do is to relax at least an hour before bed, and switch your mind off from worrying about everything. I know its hard sometimes but you need your mind clear, or else you will have a restless night.

I'm beginning to think I may have inherited a sleep disorder. My late mom had problems sleeping. I just thought it was because she the weight of the world was on her shoulders and she couldn't turn her mind for thinking about the problems of the next day she would have to tackle. Different siblings had other problems like sleep walking and sleep talking.
It is incredible how many people all around the world have insomnia. I miss the days when my head used to hit the pillow and I was out like a light. It could be a medical problem that you need to see a doctor for.
If not, I can only speak from my personal experience. Try to avoid taking sleep medications; prescription or over-the-counter. They lose their effectiveness after a while. If you can find a natural remedy that works for you (like an herbal tea or a glass of warm milk before bedtime), then do it. You could try listening to soft ambient music. Lack of sleep is so miserable, isn't it? Hope you find your cure.

I would need to know what you are facing to know why you are struggling with sleep.

If i cant really sleep at night and i have to wake up early i take a relaxing bath and put on some eye mask and it should be cold pads. It really makes me relax and fall aaleep in no time.

When I am restless, I go to youtube and hear the sounds of rain. That works for me.

I used to have insomnia many years ago. I could sleep from 5am to 2pm, never able to sleep at night. Then, I forced myself to change. Don't drink coffee or tea for 6 months, caffeine makes me wide awake. Don't use computer or smartphone 1 hour before sleeping. Have a warm shower and drink a cup of warm milk before sleeping time. Read a boring book on my bed . Pray with the rosary. Definitely work!

you might be having another abnormality that is causing the insomnia. If not, try working out hard, sweat out and get tired, and then try sleeping... you will sleep good.
