I'm grateful for instant coffee. To my mind it tastes just as good as the coffee which comes out of those fancy machines, it's quicker to prepare and there's no need for an expensive machine taking up place in the kitchen. And most importantly it's one less gadget that I have to keep clean. Do you use instant coffee, or do you prefer the posh stuff?

I really do not like the taste of instant coffee. I like my expresso made with fresh coffee.

@LadyDuck I guess anything is an acquired taste. I tried espresso once and found it much too strong for my liking. I do enjoy a good cappuccino when I'm out though, and I don't imagine they use instant coffee for that.

@MALUSE Now I understand why we poor Italian can only drink coffee and cappuccino in Italy, the others cannot appreciate the difference.

We prefer our own coffee. And it tastes awesome.

@shshiju I envy you. Our garden is horribly neglected but I grow bonsai. I wouldn't get much coffee off a bonsai coffee tree though.

I also prefer instant coffee as the brewed coffee gives me acid indigestion. I use Taster's Choice and while it's a bit expensive it's the closest I have come to brewed coffee.

I don't think that brand is available here. The one I buy isn't very expensive, but it's good enough for me.

@Gina145 I think of all the instant coffee I have tried this one is the closest to brewed coffee. I love brewed coffee but my stomach doesn't

Instant is quicker to prepare - especially during the work week and one is in a rush to get to work. But I love the aroma of coffee in the percolator - the smell alone gives me a wonderful feeling. I much prefer brewed coffee.

@Kandae11 I know what you mean about the aroma. Walking past coffee shops can be a really pleasant experience. Maybe I'm just lazy.

@Kandae11 The fresh rolls sound nice. I've never tried baking bread or rolls. In fact most of the food I buy is prepared stuff that only needs heating up.

@Gina145 Not lazy - just that instant is quicker to prepare - that's why it is called instant. I also have some favorite instant coffee - like the nescafe three- in- one sachets. But for me- nothing beats Saturday and Sunday mornings, reading my newspapers with coffee brewing and fresh rolls in the oven.

@Phelly02 I'm trying to cut down too, but some days are more difficult than others. If I got enough sleep every night I might give up drinking coffee altogether.

I usually prefer my own too, though I do sometimes have it when I'm out. I've had some really horrible coffee in restaurants.

I don't know what a keurig is. Maybe it's not available in South Africa, or maybe I just haven't seen one.

instant is common here, too, but now more and more are using the 3-in-1 sachets. i admit i buy them sometimes, too, but i do wonder about the amount of trash it generates.

@Gina145 yes, it's usual coffee with cream and sugar. some have more cream or milk in it to make it milkier/sweeter. some have chocolate mixed in so it's like mocha. one sachet is good for one mug. you just add hot water and stir.

@hereandthere I've never seen 3-in-1 sachets. Does that include milk and sugar? I don't have sugar in my coffee, so that wouldn't suit me. And things that generate extra trash aren't a good thing.

We only like instant coffee but some of our friends are very particular about their coffee. When they visit us, they prefer to have tea!

I'm not the biggest fan of instant coffee since I had a caffeine overdose because I am an idiot teenager haha! I like machine coffee better anyway, I feel like in the long run, depending on the machine and how much coffee is consumed, machines can be cheaper, but it all just depends!

@DesirousDreamer A caffeine overdose doesn't sound like fun. I try not to drink too much coffee, but on days when I don't get enough sleep I sometimes have more than I should.

@peachpurple I don't think I've seen that. I don't drink a lot of coffee, and I'm really trying to cut down, but I have a cup of instant next to me right now.

Just regular coffee from the can like Maxwell house. I don't like instant. For a treat I might have a K-cup flavored coffee, Chai Lotte is a favorite. I also will buy Dunkin donuts coffee or Green Mt. medium roast.
