Is This How It Is In Your Country?

Last night, hubby and I went to McDonald's after we have done grocery shopping. While eating. I noticed two foreigners eating by the front table. After they have eaten, they got their empty cups and wrappers and dumped them to the garbage bins. Actually, I was told by a friend living in the US that it is this way in the US. She said that you will know that the customers are Filipinos when they just leave their cups and paper plates on the table. So, it is true indeed. Though, when we finished eating we just left because the waiters will pick them up anyway. They will wipe the table that’s why. Hence, we Filipinos are used to doing this after we have eaten in fast foods. And that is also because, some fast foods use the non-disposable spoons, forks, plates, and cups which they will give to the dishwashers to wash. But if ever I go abroad, I will follow of course, what foreigners do and that is to throw their own trash into the trash bin when at fast food restaurants. Is it like that also in your country?

It's true here. After eating at fast food chains, customers put their trash away. Very disciplined people.

Oh yes, nobody can beat Japan for having discipline people. So, it is really mandatory for them to throw their own trash after eating. Gosh, I am craving for a McDo burger now, just commenting in this post of mine.

I go to a fast food only when a youngster insists and refuses any other option. There are bins but it is not mandatory to dump your trash, and I would not steal the job of waiters by doing it.

@SIMPLYD Your choice, but I prefer 100 times to go to a restaurant or even to eat a croque-monsieur and a salad in a café than to go to a fast food, they are not part of my civilization. Yes, there would be less waiters if we were doing it. We are contributing to keep them a job.

I disagree with you because I like to eat at fast foods once in a while and I am already old. So you too think the same way, the waiters are hired for doing those.

@topffer That is good to know that you eat healthily. Those fast foods are unhealthy I know. But somehow, I crave for them every now and then so I eat one though they have lettuce too in their burger. Right now, I am craving for one. I haven't eaten since two weeks ago and I think it's okay.

When we went to Singapore, we have to clean after our food at every fast food chain, but not in a restaurant. When we went to Malaysia, it's like the Philippines again, they don't do the clean up and same in Bangkok.

@SIMPLYD All fast food chains in Singapore use disposables. Restaurants don't.

@toniganzon At least there, the fast food chains are all the same - they use disposables. Thus, the customers can really just throw them all themselves into the trash bins. Here, Jollibee and KFC don't. Though they have lots of service crew.

It actually depends on the fast food store because some do not use an all disposable utensil - like Jollibee.

That's the sad part in our country. The fast-food crew is usually the one who throws it.

Indeed. Though, if a store has a sign that the customers should help them by throwing their own trash, I know the people will obey. Hey, you got a new avatar. Is that you or a celebrity?

I throw my disposables away when I am done eating at a fast food restaurant. At a fanicer restaurant I just leave it there as the waitress takes care of it.

May I ask if there are waiters in the fast food restaurants there in your country? Here, they are hired to do that. Though, after we have ordered from the counter, we carry them ourselves to our table. But if it is something that is to be cooked for a few minutes, we are given a number and the waiter takes it to our table once it's done.

@SIMPLYD In Fast Food restaurants they do have those to clean up the tables but I like to do my share and get rid of the garbage. Most people do that here.

Same here, except for McDonald's who use disposable utensils and cartons for their plates. That way, the customers themselves can really just do the throwing to the trash bin after they are done eating.

In fast food chains you are supposed to get their empty cups and dishes and to throw in the bins. There are even signs to remind customers that their help to clean is appreciated to keep the prices low.

In a way, the store indeed should have signs to do that, especially when they use an all disposable utensil and plates like McDonald's. Here it's only McDonald's who have disposable utensils. At least, the crew will just have to clear and wipe the tables. Do you have fast foods there also, knowing that pizzerias abound there?

@SIMPLYD There is only one McDonald's not far from us and they use disposable utensil and plates. Pizzeria are not fast food here, they are full service restaurants with a wooden fired oven to make the pizza. You know with the price they pay here, even 2 minutes per customers to clean up the table would oblige them to hire one more person, that means a minimum of $2,000 more a month in salary.

Actually i think they are called "fastfood crew" not waiters or waitresses please correct me if i am wrong, anyway over here most of them are contractual workers so they strive to be regulars, doing that I think would rob them the chance to shine in front of their manager and supervisors and be hired permanently. So leave these aspiring young men and women to do their job, even the managers underwent the same training.

@SIMPLYD yes contractual work is what we would like removed because there is no job security especially for those poor newly grads who are just used by these multinationals for 6 months without the regular benefits, one of the things promised by this administration but so far has not been fulfilled

You are supposed to pick up your rubbish and throw it away here but not everyone does. Here in the UK you would not get rice like your picture. We getFrench Fries or wedges. The other day I went to McDonald's which is not a favourite place of mine with my daughter and grandson and was very surprised when we worked out that you could actually now get a very healthy meal if you just chose the right things. At least they now have salad and carrot sticks and stuff like that at one time you didn't get any of that. I remember being very impressed on a visit to Ostend in Belgium years ago when I found I could get a salad with my McDonald's meal.

Yes, we have rice for our budget meal like that. That's because our staple food is rice. So, not all do that. I suppose the waiters were hired to really bus the table after the customers have eaten, It's the work of those waiters here after the customers have eaten. Here McDonald's don't have salads yet to go with the meal. I hope we will have that salad thing here too.

But I think that is true in fast foods who uses an all disposable utensil, like McDo. Here too, it should be that if there is no trash bin around, then you put your wrapper on your bag and later throw it at a trash bin you see.
