What an exciting weekend we had, and not just our younger son's fabulous wedding ceremony and gala.
Our older son's 9 year old daughter had her very first Compulsory and Freestyle events in the Mid-Atlantic Regionals. Our Ice Princess won three medals!!!!! She won 1st place in the compulsory Spins category, 2nd place in the compulsory Jumps category, and took a 4th place medal in her freestyle event out of 12 girls in her skills level.
Hopefully you can see her short spins performance here. There is no music in compulsories. You just do your best in front a slew of judges.
My cup runneth over!!!!
~ The video is down now. My son wants all videos of her performances to remain private. So does my daughter-in-law. So does she! Sorry! ~

Thank you, Valerie. She's her own worst critic and replays videos over and over again to see what needs improving. Mom and Dad are applying to a middle school specifically designed for figure skaters, child actors, models, etc. it's in her own school, but on an upper floor. This way, she can leave early for coaching and practice without all the hullabaloo necessary to leave school early from regular grades. In the future, depending on her skating, she may do what many of her fellow figure skating friends are doing - take the online Stanford University interactive school program from home. Apparently, the ice parents love it. We shall see. We don't know if she loves her school friends more than the ice or not. lol

Thank you! We discussed her skating with her dad when he stayed here for the wedding. He was best man. They are applying to a special middle school that caters to figure skater schedules and those of child actors, etc. If she continues, she will need a home schooling video program that some of the other girls are doing right now. We shall see what the future brings.

@Happy2BeMe We still want her to lead a fun and normal life. It's a tough decision. We will see what happens. The competition is stiff!!!

Thank you so much, OT! This past week has been a high - a natural high - lol to us! We are so pleased that she was invited to regionals. After that, comes something else, then nationals, then Olympics. She is climbing the ladder bit by bit and works so darn hard. Sometimes she has disappointments, but handles it well. We are so proud of everything she does.
Btw, her parents and she would clobber me if they knew I posted a video of her here. Shhhhh.

@TiarasOceanView I can't post them on Facebook unless they do. I have to keep YouTube private, too. I have a tough bunch in the family.

@LadyDuck Now that she's developing more difficult skills, she's fallen twice in two different competitions. She still won a medal in one, but at least she learns how it happened and why. I told her that I've seen Olympic skaters fall. Yet, she works and works. That alone makes me so proud.
