Want To Live To 200 Years Old?

This question was posed to my by a friend. He wanted to know if I wanted to live until I was 200 years old. I told him I did not want to live that long. “How come?” he asked. “I don’t want to be all crippled up in a wheelchair with no sense of what is going on around me.” “No, no,” my friend said. “You would be just as strong and healthy as you were when you were twenty. Then would you want to live until you are 200 years old?” “That’s different. But how is that going to happen?” “They are coming up with new discoveries in gene therapy every day to help people live longer and healthier,” my friends said. “And I want to live as long as I can.” If you are 200 years old and has strong and healthy as a twenty-year-old then way wouldn’t you live until you become week and crippled up? Anyway it would be great to live into old age without all the things that ails an old person. Would you want to live 200 years?

If people could live to 200, I wonder what kinds of imbalance that will create on our planet besides world population? Does this mean retirement age would move way up . . . and we'd have to work a whole lot longer in order to retire and cover for our golden years? Would there be any golden years? As much as I love my family and friends . . . I really have to question how the future of this planet will be, the way things are going . . . I don't know that I could stand another 150 years of it !

@RichardMeister I was walking around the college today. I was thinking about your discussion . . . and looking at the 20ish year old "kids" all around me. In some ways, I'm glad I'm not in my 20s anymore . . . I sure wouldn't want to be young and stupid for 200 years . But health, strength, energy, vibrancy . . . all that youth stuff I was envious of them a bit.

@RichardMeister Is this the conspiracy theory friend? If I were trying to protect myself from the world as it is, I wouldn't want to live in fear many more years. If we were that healthy and strong, that means most likely "the other side" would be just as healthy and strong . . . this could mean wars or times of unrest that lasts for years .

@much2say I don't think you would be stupid for 200 years. But according to my friend you would have all the other things.

I would not, but my life is not one to shout about I suppose. At least not at this particular time.

Mine seems to be a bit stuck as well - nothing interesting going on.

I would love to provided all my loved ones and friends would have the same treatment, I don't want to see them dying all around me. Sssh... Don't tell this to those greedy politicians and bad leaders, we don't want to see them in power for over a hundred years do we?
