I baked a cake last night, it turned out well which was a surprise. I've never baked anything before so I didn't have high hopes It's absolutely huge though, I didn't realise how big it was going to be, it made me laugh once I'd put it together I had a giant slice and went to bed feeling sick, I've given some to my parents today and failed to palm some of it off on my aunty as she's on a diet (which I should also be ) I think I'll make a chocolate cake tonight

Looks goodI haven't done any cake making for years although I wasn't bad back in the day. I'm currently perfecting my omelette cooking as the chef didn't turn up for breakfast service the other day so I had to do it for an hour or so (80+ people) and I can't do them in the pans at work Have you ever made a quiche?...that's what I want to try next.

I love omelettes They make me greedy though and I end up putting far too many eggs in one just for myself :') I haven't but my mam and sister both have, I never liked quiche my whole life and then one day I decided to try one that my mam made and I did like it. Turns out I just didn't like shop bought quiche

It looks perfect. Like my grandmother was telling "there are only good things in it, so you should not feel sick". I am bad for pastries, and I make only a few simple cakes and tarts. Trying a new pastry might turn to a disaster (when I tried to do a bavarois, the end result was more looking like an île flottante).

@LilyBeBack My grandmother had often funny expressions. Sorry, I had a look but I did not found an English name for these desserts.

@topffer From the pictures online I recognise one variation of bavarois as something I've had on holidays in Spain, but the other one is something I've never seen before! Sounds nice though

@TiarasOceanView I've always loved black forest gateau My mam used to get me one every year for my birthday when I was little because we couldn't afford them usually and she didn't dare try to make one herself back then Me and Leonard are feeling back to normal now, thanks Unfortunately my mam and my sister both got it but my sister was well enough to go back to work today and my mam feels a lot better today but she just feels weak now because she's still got no appetite. She said she'll be alright though cos it's not like she's wasting away

As far as I know, this cake recipe can be traced back to my German great-grandma. When I got married, my mother gave me a copy and I hope to someday pass it down to my children. —Stephanie Travis, Fallon, Nevada
