In this crazy mixed up world there has been yet another attack on a teacher. This time it wasn't just a student who attacked her, it was also the parents. Pittsburg Pennsylvania police are investigating the attack of a fourth grade teacher who took a cell phone away from a fourth grade student. It should not have come as a surprise to anyone, the school district had a no cell phone policy. When she took the cell phone away the student bit her. She first had to deal with the parent threatening to get even with her and then following her to local clinic where she was going to get the bite checked out. When she parked at the clinic the mother of the child threw a brick through the teachers car window hitting her in the face. When she got out of the car, she was then attacked from the back. The teacher then called 911 and was taken to the local hospital. She suffered injuries to her face and lost a tooth. The mother was arrested and is currently facing charges of aggravated assault, stalking, terroristic threats and recklessly endangering another person. This teacher showed grace in the midst of this attack by worrying about the child involved. Apparently she was concerned about the parents teaching the little girl that you solve problems with violence. No wonder there are so many kids who use violence these days.

This is crazy! As a school social worker, this is one of my worst fears. I work with a lot of angry kids - I've been bitten, hit, punched, slapped, spit on... But never by a parent!

I have run across the same problems as you. I taught a self contained class for a few years before switching to a classroom of students who should have been contained but were not. They could not be mainstreamed but were set up to change from a special class for each subject. These Inclusion students many times needed a stronger structure than we were able to provide.

That is terrible! What would happen to the future of the world if there were no teachers?. I hope that parent is taught a strong lesson.

@HazySue A lot of teachers have left teaching simply because the students RULE the classroom any more.

I think that teachers are no longer thought of as important people in the life of a child. I am afraid if it keeps going the way it is there will be no really good teachers left just those who go through the motions.

@HazySue I agree it's scary, many children have no rules at all. They think that they can do anything and go unpunished.

@LadyDuck that is so true. I don't know if the parents don't care or if they are just overpermissive.

It is a scary thought. What they are teaching this child is that they can do anything they want, the rules don't apply to them, and that violence is the way to solve a problem.

We find parents here in India too who don't see any fault in their children when they should be first to discipline them.

@franxav as a teacher there are rules you have to follow and rules the children have to follow as I am sure there are there. I think that parents need to support a rule like this and stop being so defensive.

@HazySue I fully agree with you. Rules are in their place but quite many parents react in not only defensive but illogical manner.

The parents also talked to the behavior specialist. They felt that the school was interfering with their child's rights They did not care that the child bit the teacher or that she was breaking a longtime policy of the school.

@JustBhem They did know about this policy At the beginning of the school years parents are sent home a paper about this that they sign and send back.

Wow that is just terrible. That poor child doesn't have a chance with a parent like that. I can see why the teacher would be concerned about the child. I am glad the teacher is going to recover but scary that such a thing even happened over a simple thing that was a policy that the child was aware of.

when I see stories such as this I no longer wonder why the students are behaving so badly in the last year. The irresponsible parents are helping to cause the problem. It must be hard for the kids who have been taught the proper way to behave.

It's a shame that so many of todays parents never got disciplined because now they are raising the hellraisers we'll have to content with when they turn 21 or probably before. This is definitely not a good thing. One aspect of ancient civilizations that we really need to implement is teaching our daughters how to be good moms which would have to include the proper ways to discipline children so they don't become violent adults, we don't live alone, we live in a society and must be able to be responsible adults. The reason I didn't mention boys is because when you come right down to it they do not have babies whereas girls do, hopefully not all of them but many will.

I think that's been a age old problem @HazySue many parents over the centuries had no clue how to show affection but because of the overpopulation of the human race it's become a much worse problem than previously.

I'm shocked (but not surprised) to see how people lash out after a minor issue. And this was a minor issue that could have been solved with communication. It's also annoying to see how attached are people to their cell-phones.

It is disturbing. We had many an argument with parents about cell phones when I was teaching. I will never understand how a parent can condone the use of a cell phone during classroom time when the child is supposed to be learning.

Wow! That is absolutely horrible! And to think it was over a cell phone. People become so attached to their electronic devices. Sad when a child goes into a rage over something like that. And the parent attacking the teacher, there really are no words I can come up with for that one. Kudos to the teacher.
