FIGHTING TO BURY A DEAR ONE

In the African society we have recently seen cases coming up where relatives fight to bury their dead. You find a lady who was married when she dies the parents demand her body for burial insisting that the husband has not paid dowry and so should not bury her.
You find a single parent who has taken care of a son or daughter single handedly then when he or she dies the father appears from nowhere demanding to bury the child while he wasn't available to take care of the child. Some do this just because of the interest they have on the property of the dead. I remember in the 1980s we had a case in our country where a certain lawyer died, he had bought a piece of land away from his ancestral home. This land was the place he was to be buried by his wife and so when he died his brothers came to demand that his wife lets them take the body to his ancestral home for burial. It was a case that took some months in court.
Do you ever encounter such cases in your areas. Fighting to bury the dead?

Yes, there are some disputes among family members when they have different interests. Thankfully there have not been any problems in my family.

Never anything like that. However, I have noticed that when people die, the ones left behind are always fighting about their belongings.

@nangayo That is not right. the property should go to the family and split equally. It is really sad to hear that is the way your country handles it. I do hope that it changes.

@Chantiele Would you believe there are some brothers in laws who come and take all the property from the wife and leave her with nothing.

I have many times seen relatives fight over the possessions of the deceased one, but never about who can bury them.

I don't think that's a common problem here, at least not that I know of. That sounds awful though. As if the sadness of losing a loved one is not enough.

that is disgusting but no, we do not do that here in my place, at least to my knowledge.
