Just over a week ago I had my cataract surgery. Had toi travel 250klms to hospital for day surgery then stayed in a motel so I could have a check up next day. The surgery went well taking about 10 - 15 minutes and was relatively painless. The motel was beautifully clean and the bed comfy and I had a wonderful meal even though it was all terribly expensive. Yesterday I traveled back to see the doctor and received a good report. Now I have another cataract forming and will possibly have it done in about a year.

Yes, it's a relief. I was a tad anxious but was OK by the time I arrived at hospital. All the red tape, paper work and arrangements were a headache.

I'm glad that all went well. I'm a bit surprised you were able to drive yourself the next day. I guess you have noticed a difference already?

I didn't drive for the first few days but then had to go pick up a parcel in the next big town. The drive went OK which surprised me. I asked the doc following the surgery and he said it was OK to drive if I felt comfortable and confident.

@MsTickle So I guess you caught a bus when you went to have it done? I only ask because I drove my friend there and back when she had cataract surgery. There is no way she could have driven herself.

@MALUSE That would have been the case with my friend too if I hadn't been able to drive her.

Can't stand the thought of anyone fiddling with my eyes, so I hope I never need to go through that. You're super brave. Glad it went well.

I was super anxious about a week before I went in. Then the anxiety was gone as soon as I entered the hospital (weird). I hate the dentist and the idea of that bloke poking and prodding and using the drill gives me the heebie jeebies. I can handle the needle and an extraction but anything else leaves me a blubbering quivering mass.

Glad to hear the surgery went well. My mother-in-law had it done. We were amazed when she was able to read without glasses after the procedure.

Yes! I'm a bit miffed as I needed to have new glasses for my driver's license. They cost $1300 and pretty soon I won't need them.

@sishy7 they are 2 pair for $200 here in Oz. Mine were wrong though and ended up costing $450. I refused to go back to them on principle.

Oh my, you had to drive a long way for this kind of surgery. Do you live in an isolated area?

Hey, isn't the perception of colours in the eye with the new lens something else?

Colour is my second favourite thing in life. I haven't noticed any changes in that area but my vision is definitely clearer at times.

@pgntwo My sister also mention brighter colours on the phone today. Maybe I have that to look forward to.

@MsTickle My unaffected eye made things look yellowish, my bionic eye (well, think positive!) had a subtle blue tinge to all the colours. And clear, yes.

It's wonderful what they can do now, to remove cataracts! Before, it would leave a person with very poor vision.

The time factor amazed me. The surgeon had a production line going - no joke. there were quite a few of us and we were all done very quickly. He is a brilliant surgeon.

Oh yey! That is so cool! My stepmom had cataracts and now she has a cool little twinkle in her eyes where the incisions are. Glad everything is going well, and soon you will see so clearly!

I am glad to hear that. Actually my mom had the cataract surgery some time ago and it was also successful. Although this surgery is for eyes, but today it seems that this kind of surgery is easy and little case.
