Let's Play - Qwirkle

Qwirkle

I wrote recently about the board game ‘Ticket to Ride’ and how much I enjoy playing it. Another game which most seem to enjoy is Qwirkle. It is recommended for ages 6+ and two to four players. The little tiles come in six different shapes and six different colours. You form lines with the shapes. The lines must be all one colour or all one shape. You cannot duplicate a shape or a colour. If you manage to get a line of six tiles the same shape or colour it’s called a ‘qwirkle’ and you get extra points. It’s quite a simple game but competitive players develop a few strategies which they hope will help their score. Do you still play board games? We haven’t for years but now we’re enjoying them again.

We have an old Monopoly game we play occasionally when my daughter is here. That sounds like a good game.

@JudyEv Monopoly can be tedious. I may look for the two you wrote about.

@JamesHxstatic Ticket to Ride won some sort of award in Germany. I like both but I love Ticket to Ride.

I'm not a great fan of Monopoly. It seems to take forever and I get bored with it. The Ticket to Ride takes about an hour and Qwirkle probably a bit less. They are also totally different to each other and totally different to Monopoly. The board games they have nowadays are something else compared to those of our childhoods.

I love how that looks - I love board games. Or domino games. My mom would love that table cloth

It's a great game. Our friends have train dominoes which is another great game and I think 8 or 9 can play at once so it's a good game for groups.

@FayeHazel When we swapped our rectangular table for a square one a friend gave me the cloth. It is very pretty.

I missed your comment back in November so I'm sorry about that. I've never liked Monopoly much. I think the reasons is that it goes on a bit long and I get bored with it.

I really enjoy both these. They make a good change from watching TV every night.

The last time I did was years ago. I'm thinking to start again. I remember Cluedo was my favorite.

I never liked board games much even as a child. But I did play Blokus recently and had fun.

No one to play board games with. This game sounds interesting. I really loved to play Yahtzee and Otello.

I get bored with Monopoly and although I like Scrabble it really only works well if both players are about the same standard. There is a huge choice in board games nowadays.
