My cat has to be in the mood to play but at times he still plays like a kitten..He has a few things he likes to entertain himself with like the mouse on the string, the krinkly green thing..and balls of various types..usually those that jingle..However, one of his favorite games is playing fetch the popcorn kernel. He has not played that game for about a year and a half..but he found one on the floor the other day and started bouncing it around..I knew that the next 45 minutes would be catch and throw..I thought it was so cute though..He started out with milk rings..and then "graduated" to popcorn kernels which he loves to chase and have mommy throw. Does your older cat still play?

I have found the older a cat gets, the less they play but they have their moments.

Our cat was still quite playful, when she was 18 years old. She would chase sunlight up the wall, in our backroom!LOL

That's interesting..when my cats were 18 they mostly got their jolly's from scoping out the dog.

@snowy22315 OH, Mindy did that, too! She would slap-box Teddy's face and then stretch his joules with her teeth, twist them to make it hurt:( Brandy, was her special friend. They adored one another and quite often, took naps together:)

You should get one or two..so many cats need homes. I will likely have this guy for a good long time..and will get a dog first..but the next time I get cats it will be two kittens.

Yes! and I find it amusing. I even had some reflection when I saw my old cat still having kitty moments. I said to myself "Look at your cat, even old cats still wants to play occasionally" It reminded me how serious I am sometimes with my life that I forget to be silly hehe... Just some life lessons from my cat. But sadly, my cat has already crossed the rainbow bridge. But I have another one now, a kitty, very playful and full of energy.

This one goes in streaks..but he is funny because ever since he was little he has had a sleepy day and an awake day..Some days he wants to sleep all day then it is followed by an awake day where he is awake almost all day!

@snowy22315 There's hardly any dull moment with a cat even when they're asleep. You'll laugh seeing them sleeping with their tongue sticking out and in weird positions hehe.. My cat is like that.

My cat at 16 years old was still playing. Mostly she loved to sit in my lap and knead and purr.

@snowy22315 So true, it's not because we get older than we have no pleasure playing.

It's so cute when they do that..he was playful tonight too with the popcorn kernel and a plastic bag and somehow ended up getting his mouse on a string draped around him..silly kitty!

Lily wasn't playing with her toys lately. I bought some catnip spray thinking she would play again. She didn't until the next day after she ate her wet food. Now she plays after she had her wet food in the mornings.

Our older cat never seemed to play with us. Whenever we saw her at all, she just plopped down and slept.
