Why so many people are afraid of getting old?

Aging is something natural and I think everyone should be very grateful for getting there (considering the fact that many people unfortunately can't). So, if it's something natural... Why so many people are afraid and try to avoid it at all costs?

Perhaps they are afraid of the declining health, aging appearance and all other "not so good things" they associate with growing old plus the next thing to aging is dying.

I guess the more you try to avoid aging the more it gets to you.
I suppose it depends on the person and their state of health too.

I think many people just don't want to be reminded of the passing of time.

I am not happy I am growing older. I do not like the years slipping by and when it is my time I will not be around to see the beauty of things.

Maybe cause of weakness... Didn't see problem with getting old, until I had to deal with one of my family members. She wish she can do stuff like before, but has no power, and sadly became prisoner in her own body. All she can do is sit, remember old times, and wait for final moment. Thats when regrets and sadness kick in, not to mantion fear of dying. Also remembering old friends reminds her that most of them are gone. Being old and vital till final days is awesome, but being old and powerless sucks... But we never know which one we will be
