Stage fear.

During my previous schooling period, I have fallen into situations where I had to go up on the stage and speak stuff. I am sure most of you have faced this as well. I had friends to whom doing this stuff felt almost natural. And before I had those friends, I wanted to take up opportunities to face the mic. But it was always a blood freezing thing to me. Opportunities like those came to me with a dilemma: To freak out or be happy. Can you please share your experience regarding your vocal presentations on stage? Do you face this fear, or are you a natural?

I learnt to speak in front of people when I was a teacher. It helps if you realise that other people experience the same fright as you.

I always felt that I was more prone to making blunders. Which, I actually made a couple of times.

@allevien Other speakers make blunders as well. Listen carefully the next time you hear someone speaking in public.

It does. All of us were very scared the first time we had to lecture. Leading small discussion groups in Graduate School helped me immensely.

I always hated when I am center of attention. Never overcame that fear, but more you do it, more confident you will be that it will be ok. It's not rare, I think most people are scared from public performance, and I know some that act very natural, but thay are actually terrified

Lol that will happen. I recently defended master thesis which was very stresful for me. After, my mentor was like "you did an amazing job, but your voice sounded a bit strange", and I found it super funny after it was over. But until then I was wondering if I will even be able to speak :D

A bit of both. When I had to teach my own class my legs wobbled like crazy but then my courage came out and people smiled and were pleased with how the class was going so it gave me more encouragement and I did better. They wanted to ask me back to teatch them but I said no as I found out I was having my first baby and was quite ill for a while. But you can do it. A lot rehearse in their own room and get to go on stage and give the speech.

One of our teachers told us about having a similar fear issue before beginning a class. But we saw him gradually warming up to the speaking attitude as he taught us.

Going up the stage solo is frightening. I experienced to be on stage alone when I joined a competition. I jist composed myself that I can deliver the poem I wrote in the local language. It was a success!

That sounds amazing! All I ever got to speak were boring news reports and moral passages. And well, presenting your own work in this manner is a greater achievement.

I'm a professor, so I have to be in front of people a lot. I don't imagine people in underwear, as some say you should do. I just pretend I'm up in front of my friends. Then I feel more casual, but I get the information out. Public speaking is one of the biggest causes of anxiety for people.

Imagining them in an underwear? I don't know if I could speak well while trying to supress my laughter:) Someone once told me to look at their heads. I did, it was mostly fine, but I could feel their focus on me. It was a bit anxiety inducing.

I'm still in school and I actually use to hate going on stage , I still do if my someone I don't like sitting in front rows. But if I have to speak in front of a complete random audience I think I can speak up pretty loud as long as they don't ask me to learn something from a paper.

Even when I learnt from paper, I would change something or the other while on the stage. And then pray I hadn't destroyed the grammar somewhere.

It is natural for everyone. I remember while in high school I volunteered to take part in a group debate competition little realising that I had to go on the stage and I was very nervous but my father trained me how to do it and I was alright . Now my profession is such that I need to face students every day , some of the junior college students can be unruly and still make me nervous.
