A lot more people survive cancer nowadays and people are very aware of it. Several years ago, I had a stroke which turned my life upside down. None of my family or colleagues understood as I was the first stroke survivor they had ever met. Apart from a car crash, I can't think of anything other than stroke which is capable of rendering you permanently disabled within the space of a few minutes. However, for my family, cancer has definitely been the biggest killer. Congratulations on being a survivor.
