Networking: Is it safe?

A few weeks back, a colleague approached me. She said she has a business proposal. A sort of "Networking", where you just have to register under an Upline and pay for activation. The said business will give me earnings in dollars every time I log in and every time I recruit or invite another individual to join the team. That easy!
But hold on...
I think I heard this before, and correct me if I'm wrong, they're known as "Pyramiding". You join. Ask two individuals to join under you. The two individuals will have to recruit two more under them, and so on and so.
That's when you start earning.
Knowing this scheme I got skeptical. Can you give me some thoughts?
Is it really safe to invest in this kind of business?
What if I don't get to recruit or invite someone to join under me?
Is this kind of business legal?

Sounds like MLM. I would never join anything like that. Many of them are scams and the ones that are not usually don't last very long.

Is that so? Thank you for letting me know. They even show me proofs of earnings, and at some point I got tempted to join & invest.

@AllforHim I have relatives that were lured into those schemes. I can say none of them worked for a very long term.

I don't know. Personally, I've never trusted those things on the net. I'm quite doubtful when it comes to those "networking" schemes. It's hard to tell if its legit especially when you do not know the ins and outs of such businesses you may easily be misled.

It's really hard to trust an offer. But there are a lot who falls easily with the hope of easy money.
