Four nights away and home to no water

We went away unexpectedly four nights ago and have only just returned home. While away we attended a 70th birthday celebration for a dear friend of ours. We also took my sister to a private hospital for a procedure she needed done and returned her to her home today. This involved a round trip of some 200 miles. She was in hospital on the day the Melbourne Cup was run. I guess this horse race is the equivalent of the Kentucky Derby or the English Derby and, although it isn’t a national holiday, many, many Australians will stop what they’re doing to watch the race. We had a meal with our friends at a yacht club and watched the race on the big screen in the dining room. We also managed to win two of the raffle prizes and now have a bottle of champagne and a basket full of goodies to consume. I was hanging out for a shower when we finally got home this afternoon but for a while we had no water. However we have been able to make a temporary fix until the electrician comes out tomorrow. I've had my shower and all is well. It isn't until you have no water that you realise how vital it is in so many ways. The photo is of one of my sister’s roses. The whole bush is covered in blooms equally as lovely as these.

I hope your sister is all right. It sounds like an eventful four days. I love horse races. Did you win the raffle because of the horse race or something else? That rose is gorgeous!

@JudyEv I'm glad it's not cancerous. It would be a favorite for me as well. It's gorgeous!

It was a busy four days. My sister had to have some small growths removed from the bladder This is the second time but they say the growths are not cancerous so that is a good thing. The raffle was held at the yacht club but other than that it didn't have anything to do with the race. I think this is my favourite rose.

This rose is simply beautiful. You are right, when we have no running water we realize how much important water is in our life.

@JudyEv I fully agree, you do not realize this when you have water ready to use.

@JudyEv i thought coconut rough meant shredded coconut, or what we call desiccated coconut, but it would be weird giving it as a gift. oops!

I agree, when we lost electricity we lose our water and we can't shower or flush the toilet, not a good situation. I am glad you were able to do a temporary fix.

We discovered this morning that the reticulation, powered by a different pump, was also not working. The pump had failed but then it has been working all the time we've been here which is 13 years. Vince is just fitting a new pump now and the electrician has been out to do repairs on the other one.

That's a gorgeous flower. An entire shrub of those would be a sight to enjoy. I hope that water situation is just a blip that is easily fixed. Last winter we went through that and its awful, just awful.

@JudyEv Yes . Kerala is a state which gets more than 6 months rainwater. But there are many less activities to harvest the rain water.

That's very true. We can't go too long without water. Not having running water would seem a great hardship nowadays.

What a beautiful rose! Water is vital, and realized it many times when we lost power and thus, our well. Now we have a generator. Hope the electrician can fix your problem soon.

We weren't sure what was at fault - the pump or the current getting to it or what - but it's all fine now and working well. And I think this has to be my favourite rose.

Beautiful flower. I can only imagine how the while bush looks covered in beautiful flowers like that. Sounds like you had a good four days away. Wishing you sister well. Water is one of those things we take for granted until we don't have it.

A second pump has blown its top too and we think now maybe the two are connected in some way. Vince is installing a new pump for the garden and an electrician has sorted out the other problem but whether it was a necessary fix or not we're not quite sure. But the main thing is is that we have water again.
