I Was That Person

Have you ever gone to the Dollar Store, gotten the few things you needed and then get to the checkout to find that someone ahead of you has 40 or more items and there aren't any other registers open?
Well that was me yesterday and I felt bad for the people on line behind me. I haven't been to the Dollar Store in awhile so I had my list which wasn't too bad but as I browsed the store I kept putting more things in my cart. Some things I had double and triples of but when I was done I had almost $40 worth of things.
With a line that backed up after me you would think they would open a second register but nope.
Usually I'm the person behind the person buying all those things and shuffling from one foot to another while each item rings up separately but yesterday I was the person holding up the line.
Next time I won't wait so long between trips to the Dollar Store.

There were at least 3 other employees wandering around the store that could have helped take a few customers and then gone back to what they were doing. I just think it's poor management in my particular store

I do 90% of my shopping there too @Marilynda1225 but if I'm 2nd or 3rd in line and I see people behind me with just a few items, I tell them to go first.

Usually I do tell people to go ahead of me but I was already being rung up when the line formed behind me

I don't mind when people buy things and take a few minutes to check out and pay. Why? because they are doing something that a lot people don't. They are paying for it and are not stealing. So I don't mind if I take a while to get the things I need. Its not like I'm running off to go do more shopping while also checking out.
Life happens, people shop. Everyone is so worried about being a burden to others. Why? So what if it takes a few minutes? Turn around, smile, say Hi, and enjoy the moment!

Very seldom do we have that happen here, except for around the first of the month usually. Then it seems like many times there are more than one line open with big lines behind them. But I have been at other stores when that has happened and you wonder why they really cannot find another Cashier to help out.

It does feel uncomfortable to be holding up the line, but what can we do, right? We can just try our best to speed up the line a bit maybe by having our payment ready. And hoping there's no problem with the ringing up process for any of the items.

I had my cash in hand so that I could pay and leave quickly. Everything went smoothly but I did feel sorry for all those people behind me that had to wait.

Actually, that wasn't your fault, the stores never have enough help, at the cash registers! It's inevitable, when I'm in Wal Mart, someone ahead of me has a problem with a credit card. They have to contact management, to get this line moving again, which can be a very long time! Meijer's doesn't do that, so we don't mind paying a little more, to get out of the store, quickly.

Usually I'm the one always stuck behind the one person that has a problem but it was me holding up the line instead this time

If I am in line and have a lot of items, I normally let the others with like 3 items go first because I hate making people wait, my anxiety is already thought the roof when I am paying for stuff, I hate seeing people get irriated haha

Our closest Dollar General usually will open a second register, but I have noticed this is a place that many people enjoy visiting while waiting.

I don't see anything wrong with it. I always end up in a line with people in front of me having lots of things but I do understand.
