Is it the season?

So I've read not only one or two discussions today about being away from mylot because of depression. And it made me wonder... Is it the season that's causing people to be depressed? I know it's more than that and I know a lot of people are having difficult times in life. Things that I may never understand because I'm not in their situation. But what can really bring you so down in life that would make you think of not wanting to be in this world anymore? I know I will never understand, but I really do hope that I would never ever go through that and I wish none of you will.

Perhaps financially or relationship problems. Or no family to spend time during with the holidays. There could be so many reasons!

Yeah there could be a lot. And I know the coming holidays could trigger such depression as well. I hope they'd be ok very soon and I hope they get the help they need.

@toniganzon Yes, all we can do is hope people are alright and have someone to celebrate the holidays with :)

One of our sons suffers from depression but it doesn't really bring me any closer to understanding it. He manages to hold down a reasonable job. Heaven help him - and us - if he ever loses it.

I hope he never loses his job at all. I think it’s difficult for you to see him go through that. We may never understand it but we share the pain and the burden of family and friends who are going through it.

Yes, in the countries with 4 season it is well known that short dark days and the cold cause depression, it's called "winter blues".

So the season could be really blamed for it. Maybe that’s why we don’t have a lot of cases of serious depression here.

@toniganzon Yes, the season is to blame. The lack of sun makes the Vitamin D to drop.

I wonder about the same thing as well, but like you said, I don't like to be judgmental because we all fight different battles. Whatever the issue is I hope they don't give up hope to move on.

These people need help the most and sometimes the help comes in the form of talking about how they feel.

I am a Bipolar with severe depression and anxiety, both of which cycled in, and I spent all of last week trying to battle through it. I had to make myself participate on here. I don't wish this on anyone.

Thank you Scott. I know it can really be difficult as what I’ve read from others here. It’s great that you still tried to participate here and I never really noticed you were going through that during those times.

@toniganzon - I had to force myself to do this. It felt like I was going to jump out of my skin all week, such was my anxiety.

I will take a guess that maybe they have gone through more difficulties than they can handle so they fell into a deep depression. I am sorry for those that suffer from depression or maybe it is a disease.

This is the time of yr more people deal with Depression due to lack of sunlight. Also depending on what type of life your life has been like Holidays can be rough for many, and bring up a lot of Bad memories. Overall I have learned how to motivate myself away from it this time of yr, but there are days that can be rough.

Yeah I've learned that as well from other members here. Living in a country with no fall or winter season, we seem to don' t feel that kind of loneliness and the our holidays are always spent with family as we all live close to each other. Family ties is very important to us and it's part of our culture to just live nearby.

@toniganzon it is really saddening to read on FB about how some persons take their own lives after posting their depressive states. i recall a post where the young girl spoke on camera about her depression and she showed how he jumped and hanged herself, live.

For some perhaps they might be reflecting on better times they enjoyed in their past. They compare this with their present situation and feel depressed. Another factor might be the fact that holidays are family and happy get-togethers. Maybe that person is alone now and longs for that feeling again. That could be depressing. And in some parts of the world these holidays fall during colder months. Sunlight has been proven to improve mood. Perhaps the lack of it contributes to this depression.

yeah that could be true. A foreign student once asked me why people in my country are such happy people despite being poor. He was awed to see a person with no clothing, still smiling and laughing. I guess the sunshine helps.

You may not understand, but as a person who is manic depressive, there are things that can make people feel worthless. I feel like if you don't understand you shouldn't speak on it because there's so much more to it than just being sad and not wanting to live.

I'm not judging anybody at all and I'm just trying to understand each and everyone's situation. Each person has different reasons for being depressed. I'm pretty certain there's more to it that's why I'm trying to learn.

@HannahLeigh518 So this discussion of mine is offensive? I'm not judging those who are going through it and I'm not speaking about it just so.

@toniganzon I know, i'm just saying that it's better to not speak if you don't understand because people can get really offended over it. It's hard to learn about because there's still a lot to be discovered about it.

Physical ailment is common and can be expected. It’s totally different from psychological illness. I don’t know anybody wanting to kill themselves because of a common cold.
