I have seen people who can sleep even when the lights are ON.
My wife can sleep even if the t.v. is ON but I can't as I need total dark in the room otherwise I can't sleep.
Yesterday my family was watching a movie and I was feeling sleepy so I asked them to switch off the tv and lights but they said why can't I sleep with out shutting them off.
I said no I can't . My wife replied why I can't when she is able to do that. She said I may go to another room if feeling sleepy as they all are enjoying the movie ,so finally I had to move in another too for them.
Do you need lights to be off when sleep? Do you sacrifice for your family?

I can block out the noise but I can't sleep with the lights on. Our TV is in the living room so if anyone wants to sleep then they can just go their own room to sleep, no issues.

I don't really need darkness to sleep. I can sleep in light. Sound can mix in my dreams, so if the TV is on, I can dream that I try to turn it off and fail. Sound can intervent with my dreams. I guess it wakes me up more often, but, I can still fall asleep.

@sjvg1976 Consider listening with earphones to some sweet dreams music, relaxing music for sleep, maybe some other stuff to help you relax, maybe you will fall asleep before you notice it.
I know some hyperactive children who used to sleep with relaxing music.

I'm not married, I think that is lucky for me because I need the tv on or noise to go to sleep

When the light is on I need something to cover my eyes. But when I'm too sleepy I can sleep whether the lights are on or not.

yes, my son and I have to sleep in a dark room, no lights on. However, my hubby and teen could sleep with the lights on, amazing aren't they?

I think an eye patch and a pair of earplug can solve your problem.
