I just want to know your opinion regarding my question. I believe, wayback years, many years ago, our parents, grandparents are disciplining us to read books, a lot of books. - since gadgets like smart phones are not popular yet those days. Can you give any tips on how a teenager will read books again? Thank you for reading! I hope you like it.

It takes a lot of discipline. I think parents shouldn't introduce gadgets to their children especially when they're young and parents should set an example to their children too. If children see their parents reading books and enjoying other things, that might influence them. I have introduced gadgets to my son when he was very young, as young as 2 years old. Now he's 13 and he's got his own iPhone 7 from last year and he spends most of his time there. However, my son is into books and loves reading. That's because I always read him books when I put him to sleep when he was young.

If the kid has good role models around him or her, that could help. My daughter grew up with us adults reading books to ourselves and to each other. She continues to read even though she is an adult now.

I dont know? My six year old loves reading. She has ample books to pick from at home. She picks them out at the store so she's more apts to enjoy it. I dont allow constant TV/ computer / screen time. 30 minutes a day each kid to pick how its spent ( can go in together for long cartoon).

@ajralcid I think it works. If kids have other things to enjoy doing, they will do that. So the key is really just finding something they are interested in. They might not like reading, but if they find a topic they enjoy, they may read to be able to do more/experience more of that hobby!

Take the gadgets away from them and tell them they can't have them back until they read a book. I rarely use my smartphone. I've taken everything off it. The only thing I do with it is talk and text. That's it. I know I'm a bit old-fashioned, and grew up in the era before all the gadgets we have today. When phones were attached to the wall by way of a cord, and you needed to dial the number, not just punch it out. Yes, I go way back. So my advice is, take all the gadgets away from them and give them a book and tell them to read it before you give their gadgets back. I know it won't go over very well, but you never know.
