You should not respond to a discussion like this one, but report it. Why ? Because it is a poll type discussion. Any good member knows by heart the guidelines. I copy/paste what they tell about polls for the members sat at the back of the class (it was my favorite place, preferably near a heater):
Among the behaviors not tolerated here, there is :
«Posting mindless polls such as "How old are you?" or "Let's see how high we can count, I'll start with one?" - Polls such as "Who are you voting for this election, and why?" are OK and encouraged.»
Responses to these kind of discussions have no interest for other members, it is why they are forbidden. But they can be valid, if the question needs more than a simple 1 word answer.
To learn more about polls, I give you a link to a post written by a great myLot master (15th dan), @Owlwings.
Picture from fotomelia.com, public domain.
So you have come to the end of typing your ‘discussion’. Do you put a question at the end or are you just putting your ‘information’ out there for people to...

Then you should call it "Which brand or type of tea do you prefer and why ?" If you do not add "why", people will respond things like "Earl Grey", "Darjeeling" or "Twinings" without any explanation. I started this discussion because I saw an obvious poll type discussion today, and another one who was more than borderline.

Thanks for the link to owlwings post, I often end my discussion with a question and some of them are 'closed' so it was good to read his explanation. I'll be more careful in future. And do you know how I'd know if I've had a discussion deleted?

@JudyEv I could have received one last year. I started a discussion against a member who likes to plagiarize jokes, but I wrote it in a way that nobody could identify the member except himself (I had even called him a she). I had overevaluated the capacities of his brain. He responded by a flame discussion against me, and I had no over choice than to write a message to GAA to report our 2 discussions, to stop the flame war. He did the same recently (he started a discussion about another discussion where nobody could identify him except himself. It is like reporting yourself), and I think he is at the origin of the last admin post.

Christmas gifts bought 0.
Gifts I intend to buy...maybe 4 or so.
PS...I don't mind breaking the odd rule for an xmas poll

@Mike197602 You were younger, you would perhaps not be the faster shooter of the West today.
I remember to have had funny moments with rants and trolls. There are days where this site is way too quiet now.

I guess I'm actually guilty of this, because I wrote a post called, " Are you afraid of clowns?," and I thought it would be fine, because it was a post about someone I know who was afraid of clowns, and I wanted to if anyone else felt the same.
I guess I won't do that again. Thanks for the info.

@topffer No, it wasn't deleted, and I remember your comment. You were pro-clown and I was anti-clown.

@misunderstood_zombie Just read it again. It was not a closed discussion as you were opening it to other fears. It is a completely good and valid discussion

You sneaky devily, you! I was ready to respond "None and none."
Seriously though, the only polls I answer are at sites that award points for an answer.

Ohhhh, how I loved sitting in the back of the class with you and @thesids . . . good times .
And Grand Master Owlwings (15th dan, that's quite a black belt in myLot) - he knows all !
I must admit though that I sometimes do like responding to such posts - naughty me - I guess we know which of Santa's list I will be on . Please don't report me .
Speaking of lists - for the record - I have not kept up a Christmas list - so I could not even tell the numbers anyway .

@topffer I heard that about thesids - wish he'd come back! I wonder what happened to our teacher @Rosekitty too!
If I get any cards out , I do New Year cards too. I always want to handmake my own cards - I seem to have issues with buying them - but every year I manage to not have time to make them . . . so my card sending efforts get put on the back burner . I do New Years because not everyone is about "Christmas".
Sorry to hear - I know many feel that way at this time of year. If you ever need ears, I am here. Me, I just feel like I can't wait for January to arrive.

Oh, yes, I am also lacking thesids. His child is taking him away from mylot.
I have already bought all the Christmas gifts I intend to do. I will send cards for the New Year, not for Christmas. I feel always depressed for Christmas, not a good period for me.

do you answer the title of the discussion without reading the content?
okay, here's what it says in the FAQ: "What exactly is considered a poll? - A poll, as we define it, would be a post that either asks a question and then gives a list of answers to choose from, or just a simple post that only asks, “what is your favorite...” Sometimes, a great discussion can be had from asking someone's preferences, but it takes more than just asking that to do it." source:

@topffer I scratched my head a bit while reading this post of yours, thinking, 'Perhaps his account has been hacked into and been hijacked, perhaps he gave his p/w to one of his girlfriends, perhaps he took some wrong medication, perhaps there is some odd thing going on here which I don't understand!'
I was even thinking, 'oh well, perhaps I should try to please him by giving him some sort of answer, but this definitely can't be the normal 'him' that I used to know...' (Perhaps he drank too much when he submitted this post... )
