Do Kids Know What a " PC " or Laptop Is Today?

I was speaking to a colleague at work the other day and he said he used the word " computer " to a younger child and he replied " what's that ? " I wonder at what age or where the split is where it's all tablets and phones and where a child still uses a Desktop or Phone as their main " screen" I can just picture a child at a public school aghast to have to use a desktop computer these days in the library or classroom! What do you think , do you know kids who don't really know what a computer is but are proficient on their tablets and smart phones ?

All the kids I know talk about a computer, an Internet site, or their cell-phone, constantly. They act like they were born with one in their hand:( One time my 16 year old grandson asked me, 'Grandma what's a typewriter?'

well, that good news ...I think ...I suspect it"s the 8 - 12 year olds that may don't know a PC as such?? and,..I certainly wouldn't expect kids under 25 to know what a typewriter is!

My friends daughter knew what a smart phone was before a computer. And they have students working off tablets in classrooms now, instead of off computers. So, times are for sure changing.

@bluesa lol ...you face planted?...does that mean you had a good sleep then Catherine ?. When someone says " face planting" , to me it mean one fell on their face, which I hope you didn't! ..... and , If I may say you have a lovely face indeed!

@Luap1050 I'll keep a pot pie warm for you. The Bureau of Land Management foisted a creek on us, right below the property. If you are a birder, bring your scope.

I don't have enough knowledge or interaction with kids to comment on this thought. But I can believe it.

OMG! Most kiddies are so equipped with using these modern gadgets. I doubt if we can control them in knowing them.

I believe they do not know about desktops because they have laptops. Kids are smarter than when I was growing up.
