I've always wondered how people come to deciding their kink and why. Can they stem from a deep rooted desire or trauma?
There was a guy on TV who liked being slapped with a fish - why specifically a fish?
I'm personally quite vanilla but domination (towards a sub) looks interesting to me - does this mean I feel powerless in every day life??
I feel it could be a healthy catharsis and most importantly, consensual. Better than going around bullying people like a right thickhead ;)
What's your kink and do you know why? Or you could discuss about the ones you've heard of if preferred!

This is a very interesting topic. Yes, they can stem from either/or. Going through trauma, myself, I have experienced weird kinks due to trauma. Its uncomfortable when you really think about it, but I also believe that may be one of the ways your brain tries to recover..by normalizing it (not normalizing rape, but actions that happen during) I have certain kinks, but I also have flashbacks if other certain things are done as well. I did research and read my moms psychology books once I noticed the changes. There isn't really a set in stone answer because it really is different or everyone.
Aside from trauma, there are kinks from desire. Who knows where these desires sprout from, but kinks can come from both. It's definitely an interesting topic, making you think about things from a new perspective.

@amastem it's no problem, I enjoyed thinking about this from a new perspective. The brain normalizing theory was because when trauma like that happens you feel at fault or like you're no longer a part of society...at least I did, and the brain does what it can go protect itself. Instinctively. I only speak from my side, though so the answer could be different elsewhere. Its just the only thing that makes sense, logically.
