slip sliding away

December 19, 2017 1:01am CST
Walking out into the world today was akin to finding oneself suddenly living in the middle of a ginormous ice rink. I tried the pavement. It was slippy. I stepped into the road. It was slide-y. I tried the grass. It was squidgy underfoot which, although not nice, is far better than not knowing if the next step is going to be the one where the ice wins and one lands squarely on one's bottom. I made it to the bus. Phew. Town Planners and pavement councilmen {who must surely share an office with Bus Timetable & Route Planners} should be made to walk through their designs and creations in all weather, particularly that which brings forth wintry weather . Some surfaces are lovely and grippy in icy conditions. Others are not. Yes, those paving slabs are visually appealing, but they are not pretty for walking on when winter comes. Let's hope that the conditions at my destination are less risky. Life is such an adventure. Happy day!

@poppylicious This is why most are blessed with more bottom than we think we need. May you stay vertical for the rest of the season.

Many thanks. Today I was blessed with much verticalness and no horizontal occasions. Long may it last.

Aqualung released a version of this song, can't find it on YouTube, but this one'll do for now:
I picked some pictures for this lovely tune - filled with tragic and loneliness.

@Poppylicious I would quite like a bit of Lily Allen, or perhaps even of Amy Macdonald... But perhaps that's not what you meant

my town was like that the other day-they're supposed to fine people who don't clear their walks, but they seem to be slacking so far.thank god it rained at some point last night and removed most of it.

Over here the council is responsible, but they tend to only concentrate on busy places.

Ice is my least favourite part of winter! I normally walk really fast so I don't like the fact that it slows me down, and of course I don't like the sense of impending doom that comes with the risk of falling over in public I once came off my bike on an icy road, I'd forgotten it was icy and I took a corner at normal speed

Ouch! I managed to break each elbow within eleven months due to ice. I walk really slowly - you'd hate going anywhere with me!

It is. I envy those who just get on with it and have no fear. Every step I take on such days is a cautious one, which is probably more risky!

Icy is slippery. I've had several unfortunate encounters with it over the years. Mostly I manage to stay upright. The temperature here is high enough that the snow has mostly melted and thendrivewaynis clear again..yesterday's rain on packed snow made it treacherous.

I can fall over anywhere, regardless. Ice just makes me more aware of it!
