Too old to die young

A friend sent me an email regarding a calendar put out by a German nursing home. Various residents appear in each month. Professional photographers and make-up artists were used to create some very classy photos. The stances are all iconic so James Bond is there together with classic poses from Dirty Dancing, Easy Rider, Cabaret, Titanic and others.
However it is the last quotation that hit home with me. It reads ‘Do not regret growing old. It is a privilege denied to many.’ So that is something to ponder on for us oldies. Be grateful for every day above ground. As I said to Vince just a day or two ago ‘we’re now too old to die young’. He and I need to remember to be grateful for the fact that we are still alive.
The photo is of Queen Victoria in George Square, Glasgow, Scotland, with an irreverent seagull perched on her head. Isn't it a beautiful model of the horse?

We were lucky to see that very statue in Glasgow!!! I recognized it instantly when I opened your page, and it's been a little over five years since I saw it. At least my old memory isn't gone, yet!
That is a very wise quote, and one which we try very hard to live by.

‘Do not regret growing old. It is a privilege denied to many.’ That is a different spin on old age. Interesting!

The horse? I think it is. Aging is unavoidable process, isn't it?

I have been so fortunate with my health that I often think about being to old to die young. I recently announced to the group I play ping pong with that we certainly got past early onset Alzheimer's.

The key, I think, is staying busy.
One of my favorite song lyrics, by Maynard James Keenan:
"Recognize this as a holy gift and celebrate this chance to be alive and breathing"

I would have to agree with that. My mother lived to 104 and was in her own home until she was 99. Not having enough to keep herself occupied in the nursing home was a constant source of frustration for her. At the finish, her sight had gone and she was nearly deaf. She used to fold towels for the laundry ladies just so she had something to do.

@JudyEv - I used to work in a military grocery store in Denver. It was very easy to tell the difference between the retirees that were active and the ones that weren't.

Thanks for pointing that seagull out. I did check the photo in the beginning, admiring the horse, but couldn't work out what that white top 'thing' was that sit on a horse. Thought it was a kind of a fancy torch . Now that you explained, I could see very clearly some handsome figure sitting there on that beautiful horse, with the despicable and illiterate seagull which didn't learn enough history, hence, had no respect for that queen!

Yes, I know that quote. As long as we are here, we should make the best of every day! Interesting pic!
