We're making cornhole boards

For a number of years now, we’ve got together with a group of friends to celebrate New Year. However for the first time in many years we’re not able to get together this year.
One couple are off to spend Christmas and New Year in Canada with their three adult children and their families. A single friend is off to Japan for a white Christmas with two of her sons and their families and another couple are flying to eastern Australia for Christmas and New Year.
So we’ve decided to have a small gathering here and to help fill in the hours till midnight we’ve decided to make a couple of cornhole boards. We saw this game for the first time in France and enjoyed playing it. It has a number of different names depending on the region.
The idea is to throw a bean bag at a hole in a raised platform. You score points if your beanbag goes through the hole or if it stays on the platform. In the photo you can see a platform behind me. There is a platform each end and you play back and forth until one team gets 21 points.
It seems it might be an American game so I’m wondering who has heard of it and who has played it. We’ve have two boards nearly made and should be able to finish them off tomorrow.

@jaboUK Sorry. Once again I didn't make myself clear. The photo was taken in the south of France where our Australian friends took us for a barbecue and pool party. We're still in the process of making our boards and then I have to make the bean bags.

I have not known of the sort of game.I reckon that it is hard to make the beanbag go through the hole.

@JudyEv oh, i'd be embarrassed, too! hahaha! i guess they used that long pole with the net to scoop those bean bags out.

@hereandthere No, half the folks there were in bathers and one of the men would jump in and get the bean bag out.

I've never heard of this game, but I'd really love to try my luck at it! I asked Jay and he said yes, that he has played this game before!

@kobesbuddy I had trouble getting it high enough and I wasn't very straight either. More practice needed!

@JudyEv It's similar to basketball. There's a certain angle that needs to be considered, plus the speed and height when you throw the bag.

In our little town it is played often at summer parties. Some people pay money to enter then whoever the winner is gets the big prize money. I saw at one party the entrance fee to play was $20. I thought that was way to steep for the low income in our area.

@arthurchappell We've only had to buy a few screws and material for the bean bags so it was an inexpensive project.

@hereandthere The bags are supposed to be 6 by 6 inches (150 by 150 mm) and weigh 15 to 16 ounces (430 to 450 g)[1] The bags should be filled with dried corn kernels. I'll be looking for some tough fabric. Hopefully I'll have some scraps I'll be able to use.
