I was seriously depressed in the past week, a new experience.

The Christmas season has never depressed me, it was always a joyous time even if I was alone. This year was very different. My son's heroin addiction got out of his control and he was often in the hospital with MRSA infections. Then he stole about $4k of valuables from me--guitars, coins, his daughter's guitar I was saving for her (she's only 4), and some items including my mom's class ring--and I told him to take his wife and get out. He threatened me so I took out an order of protection. That was in October.
It's been awful, wondering if he's alright, if he has enough to eat, if he's cold at night, what he's doing. I think that's what got me. From the week before Christmas till yesterday the only time I stopped crying for more than a few minutes was when I was sleeping.
It's better today, thank goodness, I almost feel normal again. I've never had that happen to me before. I have always been able to talk myself through a bad mood or minor depression but this was different.
Has this ever happened to you? I hope it will never happen to me again!

They have to want help. Every time we've put him through rehab--once an inpatient type for 8 months!--he went right back to it. BernieZ said that addicts must change their mindset and that is so true. I can only hope he succeeds one day in attaining his freedom.

I am sorry you experienced that, addiction is such a hard thing to go through. When my son was younger I battled that with him and even had him arrested one night because he was out of control. He cleaned himself up but it was a hard battle. Sometimes as hard as it is for a parent, you have to let them hit rock bottom before they see the problem. I hope you don't have to go through that again.

Definitely! I can deal with anything if I know what it is I'm dealing with and what to expect.

Thank you, Patsie. They are better today, I woke up and the depression was just gone. The situation remains but I think maybe I was just tired of being strong for so long. I'm going to find a way to deal with it better so this doesn't happen again.

It's no wonder you were crying. You were betrayed by your own child, and that hurts. Don't ask how I know that. One of my children did steal from me, but nothing with real monetary value -- just family heirlooms and such with mostly sentimental value. Never give up hope that your child can be healed of this addiction. I thought my sister-in-law's case was hopeless, but the Lord still found her and helped her overcome many years of heroin addiction.

Thank you! I have always been strong but I guess I just lost it this past week. It's very upsetting when your child is suffering.

From time to time, I experience those days and they are not Fun. Today would have been my Moms 74th birthday so it has been a little depressing. I am keeping busy here posting trying to keep my mind off it,
Take time, read a Good book, listen to some good uplifting music and Pray if you believe in that. Those usually are some of the things that help me.

I'm getting there, thank you. I guess everything that's gone wrong the past few years just hit me all at once. Thank you!
