Get Rich And Retire

I know many have made resolutions, or new goals for 2018 and yes I am one of those people. Last year I failed at all of them but one, I did lose 10 pounds and kept it off, although the goal was a little higher. The point is I try to better myself.
This year I made more simple resolutions, well, one is always harder and I am sure I can achieve all of these.
I also work on "year" plans. Meaning what or where I want to be in one year, five years and ten years. With the bigger picture at my age to be retirement, early retirement that is.
So, to get there I need to get rich because I am one of those people who will not be drawing social security when I get old, even if it is still around, because for most of my life I have ran my own businesses.
Now .......
How do I get rich?
Photo mine.

We both worked for others and those others offered pensions too so that is how we got where we are. At this point, yikes, I guess you need to keep working or get those 40 quarters in, you still have time and/or marry a rich man, does he have to be old? lol I think I would have still opted for putting the payments into SS, you only need to do it for 10 years to protect yourself.

@andriaperry Are you trying to be self-sustaining? Hey if you make more energy with solar than you use you can even sell it, I see a rich future there. Or maybe a wind turbine, you can make lots of energy to sell. We already have a well and a septic, my daughter has the solar panels and my friend has a geo-thermal home; all great ways to save.

For some reason getting rich has never been a goal of mine. Getting enough money to live comfortably is. I'm afraid to get really rich for some reason.

@andriaperry My parents were killed because of money and politics. I think my fear started from that. I was only 13 when that happened. Somebody entered our house, took all of our money and mom's jewelries and killed both my parents.

I don't know how rich you want to be, but we were very lucky to be able to retire early. My husband and I receive fabulous pensions, ( his is more than triple mine, and mine is quite hefty),we saved surplus money every month, both invested in various in TSAs and 401s through work, and have two financial investment advisors, a tax attorney, and an accountant who manage our funds for us. Life is good, and we don't have a mortgage, paid cash for our condo and four cars, nor any debt. We can live off our pensions with money leftover for travel, luxury items, etc. I suggest you see an investment advisor. My brother owns his own business and has no financial worries when he retires.

I do have a financial advising firm and a CPA. I have no debt at all, all the rentals and my home are paid for,I refuse to own a credit card, all of the cars/trucks are paid for too. I am about to give my sister a car and sell one of the trucks.
By no means am I poor but I am looking to make money to save for my old age, and for a little travel.

That is right, people who own businesses have the option of paying into SS or not, when you have to pay income taxes ( I have never gotten a tax refund) that is the last thing you are thinking about, since most of my monthly income pays freaking insurance I cannot afford to pay SS too.
One of those damn if you do damn if you don`t situations.

@andriaperry oh man that stinks. Makes me glad that I'm just an employee. I show up, do my job, and let someone else deal with all of the taxes, deductions, etc. from my paycheck.

Great! First of all I wish you best of luck for everything ! I am very happy that you shared your resolution for 2018!
Yeah, it is little difficult to get what we want but we will get closer !
I hope you will get what you have wished and your retirement life will be better!
I suggest you to write a book in this New Year ! I think that would be great investment for the rest of your life!
Thank you and have a great day!

I do have 2 books written. But that market is hard to get into and you have to have a agent to submit to the best publishing companies. Sure I can post it on Amazon but no one gets rich from those.
Thanks for the ideas.

Has your husband always ran the business as well? If not when he retires you can collect his retirement as well. I don't know much about it but I know that is what my parents will do when my dad reaches retirement age as my mom has not worked for a actual paycheck in about 20 years. She babysat when I was young and has cleaned houses for the past 15 years.

@andriaperry Yes but it's only $1. This lady in my area wanted to buy a $1 scratch lotto ticket. The person gave her a $10 one by mistake. She didn't want to get it but then gave in and ended up winning $10,000,000.

I have found great help in adjusting my spending - not splurging on little items has helped me a lot surprisingly

I don`t spend a lot, as you know they call me the coupon Queen around here.
Yesterday I used coupons and got what I "needed" three 12 pack rolls of toilet paper, 260 paper plates, 2 bottle of cough syrup and bananas for just at $14. I saved over $30 using coupons.

Oh wish I had the answer for that, then again if I did my hubby could retire soon. He has paid in but of course the SS payments are usually not enough to really love off of. Like you we need about 2000 a month. If we can get things paid off and finished here I might be able to do it for less. Hope it works out for you.

@andriaperry That is so true. I was telling Rick, you work your whole life when you are young and have your health, but are tied down to a job. Then you retire and are tired and don't have money to even really do anything BUT you have a lot of time.
