“Do you think it is important for men to take good care of their skin?”

Majority of women have their own beauty treatment and the day is not complete without using them. I am sure there is no low opinion about this concern to women. On the other hand, if men had beauty products applied to their skin, some people will react from earth to heaven without any second thoughts. It cannot be denied that men are too vain of themselves nowadays. ‘Is it bad for men to be self-loving?’ ‘What do you think about this concern?’ Image Credit: pixabay.com

I think everybody should take care of their physical self. I heard about a person who struggled to bring up his son - only child, and when the couple got old, the son threatened to kill parents for their retirement savings. The gentleman is pleading for euthanesia. He locks his wife when he goes out of home fearing that the son would kill her. With age, we will cease to look attractive. That will add to repulsion. So grooming to an extent is mandatory. But I don't believe it has to be with cosmetics. It has to be with healthy diet I suppose.

@vandana7 With regards to cosmetic surgery and the like, I am not in favor on this. I will still stick to natural enhancement of oneself. I am into a natural aging process and people need to enjoy it as they grow older.

@Shavkat No I did not mean cosmetic surgery. Opting for chemical cosmetics is not ok with me. That said, it never hurt to try some natural remedies.

One of the reasons this is important is that a child might be still ok with looking after the parent, but the spouse of the child can find some of those chores repulsive. Everybody does not have the serving attitude like the nuns and priests. It is one thing to expect, and it is another thing to face reality. The least we all can do is, try to maintain good health and preferably good skin so that the person does not feel repulsed at the sight of us.

@jstory07 I do agree with you. It shows how they love their total being. It shouldn't be questioned if men wanted to improve their image in public.

If men find things that can help them look better and healthier, why not? Personally, I only wash my face and shave.

Honestly, I also use non-allergenic soap and sunblock to protect my skin from harmful sun rays. It was prescribed by a dermatologist. I do agree with you that there is nothing wrong to use beauty products to keep someone's skin.

@db20747 I only use soap with moisturizer to my body. I can't use it on my face because it triggers having acne vulgaris.

In our society men don't need to be beautiful but in my opinion anyone can use beauty products to look beautiful irrespective of if he is man or a woman.

If we look back, there are no certain rules that men should be inhibited in making themselves good with the usage of beauty products. It is a choice to keep oneself beautiful in the eyes of people and oneself.

i believe vanity also grows in the new man now. they also use glutathione and other skin-whiteners, and pimple reducing facial lotion. vanity is the name of the game.

I think these men are so overrated. Can we blame the celebrities who introduce these beauty products?

@Shavkat the think the celebrities endorse these products because it is a fact now, that not only women are vain, but men as well. i find it okay now to even see somebody using a face lotion or facial wash like James Reid. i also find it awkward still when i see a man applying lip balm because his lips are dry, like Vaness Wu of Meteor garden and even some local celebrities here. more so, i find it amusing when a lip balm has a faint color applied on a man's lip.

@ridingbet I do use lip balm if the cold weather strikes my city.lol I cannot afford to see my online students with dried lips while having a class. But then, I am not that vain to my body.

Everyone, I suppose, needs to have a good level of hygiene but of course, you get those who go far and beyond. I personally believe that too many products on the skin is not good for its normal flora, and will ultimately result in further skin problems. Optimum skin health also should come from within, from eating healthy food.

@Shavkat I think some people have to go through so many products before they find what suits them. I know someone who reacted really badly to Cetaphil which is supposed to be a very mild and alkaline formula.

@Theresaaiza I do agree with you. Some beauty products need to have trial and error in using them. For the safe side sake, I think the consumer can consult a dermatologist if they have an allergic reaction to using certain beauty products.

You have a point. I think people should consider using non-allergenic beauty products.

In our country nobody would ever dare to react if a man uses skin care problems. On the shelves there are as many for men as for women and all men use them.

@Shavkat okay. is this you on your profile picture?? sunblock is indeed very important for daily use most especially if you tend to keep going out and stay under the sun using this would get you rid of hyper pigmentations and the like.

Not only for men but I think it applies to everyone. For hygiene's sake and healthy living. I haven't been so conscious about how my skin is until last year. When I checked myself in the mirror, I realized how stressed I was and somehow made me look older than my age, Oh, boy. It was then that I realized that I need to get enough sleep, drink a lot of water, exercise and eat healthy food. It;s never too late to start, right?

I think it is not too late, my friend. We can still protect our skin. It is also nice to hydrate ourselves by drinking enough water. In addition, we don't need to expose ourselves under the sun especially in the afternoon. As much as possible, we can use sunblock and lotion with SPF +20.
