WHY are the Christmas lights still on?

Seriously, neighbors, it is January 9th! Christmas is OVER!!!!!!
I know that some people like to extend Christmas to the Epiphany which is Jan 6th (I think??) and I get that. Me, personally, I am over the holiday by like the 26th or 27th and want all decorations gone by then.
But it is now the NINTH. I understand that people may not have been able to go outside to take down the lights on their houses or to get in all of the decorations from their lawns due to the frigid temperatures and the foot plus of snow that we recently had dumped on us. . . but they can at least unplug the lights. It really looks silly to still have Christmas lights on at this point in time. Stores have Valentine's Day candy out and I bet some even are already putting the St. Patrick's Day stuff out too. You know how they love to rush those holidays!
TURN OFF THE CHRISTMAS LIGHTS PEOPLE!

@MikesAngel317 I wanted to take them down the very next day but I got delayed for a few days. I agree with you. It is over on the night of the 25th.

It is considered bad luck to keep Christmas decor up passed the 8th. Perhaps they have been busy, it is hard to keep up with everything

@NJChicaa it goes along with eating black eye peas and such those superstitionas. We have people that keep their lights up year around. I don't mind, I don't own their life, I don't know their reasons.

I also see some neighbors here like that. They can't get over the holiday spirit. What's the point?

Oh yes, for certain turn those lights out! Our stores are running sales on winter things and already bringing in some summery clothes! By next month, there will be bathing suits up for grabs:) We use to take our Christmas decorations down, New Years Day.

@NJChicaa Our lazy neighbor man left his up, from one year to the next! They had white icicles hanging from their roof, throughout the hot summer months

I agree. This past Sunday night, my husband and I went out to eat right after it got dark and a house in the neighborhood next to our road, had their Christmas lights on. They were the only one to do it for miles around.

@MALUSE I feel the same way.
In India, there are too many festivals for Christmas to get attention 2-3 months in advance. Which I find to be a relief. But the online world starts talking about it too early. Like there is nothing else left to celebrate in life!
Even Indian festivals are not celebrated in India before the time for it is actually here. The markets stock up just 10 days before the festivals.
