Talk About Embarrassing

United States
January 10, 2018 5:25pm CST
Today is my oldest grandsons birthday. I called him this afternoon to wish him a very happy birthday and he was definitely glad to hear from me. After our little chat he very gently told me that he appreciated the good wishes for his 22nd birthday but it's really his 23rd!! I couldn't believe I got his age wrong (not that I want to get older) but at least I got the date right!! We had a good laugh and I just had to share my faux pas

. That is funny and at least you remembered! Next year, just wish him Happy Birthday! Don't laugh, but I forgot how old I was until my friend figured it out. I was in my early 40s.

Forgetting your own birthday is something I've wanted to do many times. Now it's just a number so I don't mind so much

My mother often got my age wrong, so you can be forgiven for getting a grandchild's age wrong.

Guess it's common for us mothers/grandmothers. At least my grandson wasn't offended and I'm so proud of him. He's off at the end of the month to go to school for his pilots license.

@Marilynda1225 It is not a,serious mistake and I would not expect many people to take offence at this.

Hey, that's okay. Sometimes my dad can't remember how old I am, or which birthday he is supposed to be celebrating. So you are in good company.

The important thing is that you did remember his birthday . . . and hey, you were very close! (I wish people thought I was having a 22nd birthday !).

Since he's my first grandchild I figured I'd never forget his birthday and just count backwards for the other kids if I couldn't remember his. Gosh I feel old

@Marilynda1225 In my opinion, this is more important than the right age.

Most important is that you got the day right. I am sure he was really happy to hear from you on his birthday as not all grandparents remember

Yes it was quite funny but I couldn't believe I made such a mistake. He's my first grandchild so I should have remembered.

If I were him, I'd just have been very pleased to hear from my grandmother. And it sounds as though he was - not at all worried that you had him a year younger.

When he gets older he'll be happy to shave off a few years as each birthday rolls around. Ahhh to be young again!!

@Marilynda1225 And then, when he gets REALLY old he'll brag about how old he is!

That is funny, did you tell him it was just one of your blonde days?

I didn't think of using that as an excuse (btw I am blonde). He probably has already chalked up previous experiences with me as being blonde moments.
