“What don't you like about going to shops?”

It is fun to go around from one shop to another in local malls. We have the freedom to check things out or buy essential things in our life. But then, I always take an issue with some sales clerks who keep on following me. Even if I ask them to stop doing it and I will just call them for an assistance. I am not comfortable if someone is following me in every corner of the shop. As if I am going to steal anything and it sounds like a paranoid state of mind.
“Do you feel the same way?”
“Are you comfortable being followed by a sales clerk?”

Yes, one time I was doing the rounds in one of the malls here in Davao.
I was trying to look for cheap gifts for my nieces and nephews when one of the sales ladies approached me and ask if I needed anything. I told her that I'm just looking around thinking what to buy. I thought she will leave me alone as I enjoy checking the items but not, she was following me. The next thing I know, I went out of that mall.

That has happened to me and I think that they might think because I am not of their Country it might mean I am going to steal something.
One got fed up of following me and I was going to tell him more than once that I had seen others "lifting" things and he certainly did not follow the obvious.

Me and I cannot be bothered with them anymore and I have learned to take them with a pinch of salt.
If they want to search me they can as I don´t need to steal anything.
If I had no money I would not go to the Shop.
Of course try telling them that.
Its usually the normal dressed ones that do the "shoplifting" at least where I go shopping see.

@lovinangelsinstead21 I agree. If it happens to me, they will see how playful I am. The stress level is up when they provoke me.lol

Me too! I know they're just doing their job but I'm really not comfortable when they do that. I'd rather walk out and go to another store.

It was really irritating to deal with some sales clerks who cannot even step back for a while. We need the moment of checking some products and think it over if we are going to buy it or not. For me, if they can't do this, then it is also considered poor customer service.

I don´t go to shops. I mostly buy groceries. But that is about all.

@Shavkat I don´t think I have seen anyone being followed in a grocery store. They should mind the brats that come with their parents and eat and don´t pay though.

I would not like someone following me either. I just say I'm browsing and if I need anything I'll get you

There's a bookstore here where they have a watcher who dress up like regular customers. They actually just watch you as you shop. I hate them when they follow me because maybe they suspect me as a shoplifter which I'm not

I guess they're not doing much because it's probably not crowded in that section. I remember going to the clothes section and it was almost empty with the sales clerks gossiping.

Since we were colonized by Americans before, the business establishments adapted the old system of providing such sales clerks' job. Regardless, they need to be flexible in catering the customers' needs. That includes, they should be sensitive enough to stay away if the customer doesn't want to be being followed.

I hate that too! I'm not comfortable being followed by a sales clerk. But we can't blame them because that's what their boss told them to do.

@JSAph8888 I do agree with you. We just need to be tolerable in such situation.

@Shavkat But there are some sales clerks that makes you really feel uncomfortable for being near with you, like 2 feet away, that you can't move easily to check things out. It is okay for them to follow us, because it's part of their job, but at least put a good distance away from customers.

Oh, shopping and walking around shops! No this is the worst thing for me and I have not done this in years. I am glued to my computer now when it comes to making any kind of purchase. It's amazing but you can actually pick up anything you want now by shopping online. I appreciate some people may like to walk on the street visiting different shops and browsing but I don't feel comfortable doing this, perhaps it's a personal thing with me.
It is funny but I suppose you do get the overly enthusiastic sales clerk and I guess they think they are doing their job appropriately and looking after the potential customer but not all customers like this.
Anyway, shopping on the high street is a thing of the past for me.

I do agree that it is far convenient to shop online. You don't need to squander time walking around the local shops in malls. There are times that we can meet some friends in a local mall. It is inevitable that we can check some products in local shops or do some window shopping. As I had mentioned, we need to deal with such nosy sales clerk. It is sometimes overrated behavior.
