Helping A Stranger.

One Sunday morning I was relaxing on my veranda with a cup of tea and the Sunday papers when I noticed a young lady approaching my gate. From her manner of dress I guessed that she was on her way to church (there is a church just eight minutes away from my home) - however, she seemed to be limping.
She called to me from the gate and I then noticed the problem - her left shoe heel had detached and was hanging uselessly at the side of the shoe. She didn't need to ask, I told her I'll be back and dashed inside to find her a pair of shoes which would fit. I had two different sizes and one happened to fit perfectly.
She was so relieved and thankful it really made my day that I was able to be of assistance. I really didn't expect her to return the shoes , but she did so the next day. Have you had the opportunity recently to help someone who really needed help? It is a wonderful feeling.

Yes Tony told me to stop the car just as we got off the interstate, He seen a man, sitting in the sun, called him to the car and gave him $5 and told him to go eat. Tony said he had a feeling the man was hungry. Burger king was close.

I need to do a better of job of helping people in need. I see them every day, and yet most days I just keep on going or doing whatever it is I'm doing without stopping to offer help or assistance. Shame on me. I really enjoy helping people, but sometimes I just get so wrapped up in my daily life that I forget to be a decent, kind human being. If I were in need of help, I would want someone to stop and help me. I need to do the same for others.

@Kandae11 Yeah, but I need to stop making excuses. There are people who are really in need.

@Kandae11 That's a good thing. I know with my small feet, I wouldn't have been able to offer a pair of shoes. I'm glad you could. I don't know of a recent event where I was able to help someone, but I know I have, and I know the good feeling that comes from being able to help people when they need it.

She was lucky you had a pair of shoes that could fit her. I usually keep extra flipflop slippers in my car for emergencies.

That was very kind of you! I know what it's like to have a shoe suddenly become useless . . . you literally saved her! The other week, I came home and found my neighbor (one I don't speak to) sitting at the curb only in his underwear and socks. He said he couldn't breathe, but he had already called the paramedics. I ran in the house to get a blanket at least (it was cold), but he refused it saying he was sweating like mad. I couldn't do anything but wait with him til the paramedics came (I flagged them down once I saw them turn on our street). He was taken away and I didn't know what happened after that (we don't talk to anyone in that house). So the other day I came home and he came up to me . . . he had made it home a couple days before . . . he thanked me for staying with him on that breathless day.

@Kandae11 Yah, he said he has a heart condition . . . and on this day he mistook his medication - only drank half a dose for some reason - and then he couldn't breathe. But he got set up with a cardiologist in the hospital down the street . . . so next time this happens, he's not too far from the specialist. But still I won't speak to all the crazy tenants next door unless I have to . . . we especially hate the owner!!

I would have had to drive her to church @Kandae11 , since I wear a size 10 shoe.

@Kandae11 Well I sincerely hope that someone from church would have gotten her home. Plus, if she was walking to start with, she couldn't have lived to far away.

@nanette64 Where I live faces the main road which leads to other towns and cities, so its a busy road. However people in this area do a lot of walking - I usually see tourists as well walking (there are three well known hotels not too far from me) probably headed to a local beach or the town square. Taxis sometimes stop and offer to take them where ever they are going, but they refuse every time.

Last year I went to meet a friend of mine and we had lunch together. Actually she is my only best friend. So on my return I had only 200 Rupees which is around 6 dollars left. And bus fair which cost 1.05 dollars which I always keep separate.
I met a man who was hungry and was asking for money. I felt sad and gave it to him. As he got the money he run to the nearest shop and got himself food.
I felt so happy seeing him eating.

Indeed it's a wonderful feeling to be helping somebody especially a stranger. I haven't had the opportunity recently but I did one time ago and I could never ever forget that feeling.

Quite often. Most recently we were having bagels and coffee outdoors at a restaurant for breakfast. My husband and I spotted a Veteran sitting in his wheelchair in the shade of a tree. I bought him breakfast and my husband slipped him a $50 bill. He thanked us immensely. I don't think he noticed the amount of money, since it went into his shirt pocket, but hope he was surprised later.
