Looking to start a video Podcast
As many of you know I knit and have my own knitting website and also sell my items on Etsy. Now I’m looking to start a Podcast, I do watch a few other knitters and their podcasts and I’m sure I could do the same too.
I’ve set up my channel on YouTube and did try to make a podcast the other week, however, I need a better cam or I might use my camera than I should be good to go.
I’m looking forward to starting a Podcast which I would hope to make every two weeks if I have enough content.
Have you have made a podcast before or every uploaded to YouTube. I have uploaded a few videos before but nothing like I’m hoping to do.

The main problem is the sound. I have tried all the cameras I have at home, and I have concluded that an external microphone was needed to have a correct sound quality. I add later the sound to the video with a video editor. For voice recording you do not need stereo, a cheap microphone recording on a PC or a tablet is enough.

@kevin1877uk A recent smartphone gives better results than a webcam if you have not a camera. Mine is a cheap Huawei and is able to take decent HD videos.

I like watching yarn-related podcasts. It's almost like I have visitors in my home. The main ones I watch are Knitting Expat, The Knittt Girls, The Grocery Girls, Knotty Knit Wits, Sheepishly Sharing, and The Bakery Bears.

@kevin1877uk I love the way she says, Hello. It's me, Margaret! at the beginning of her videos. She has great tips for different things. I have used a couple of her crocheted hat patterns. ~~ The Knittt Girls are the first ones I started watching regularly. Then Margaret and then Mina. I love The Bakery Bears. Kay and Dan are a lovely couple. I love Kay's accent. (you wouldn't consider it an accent being you are both in UK. I"m in the U.S.) ~~~

Oh, I love Margret from sheepishly, she is awesome and she was the first one I saw, been watching her for maybe 18 months now. Back June she was asking for Videos of her followers, so I posted one for her. I've been watching fairly little which I do really like, I was watching a guy from Australia, sorry I can't remember his screen name although he's not posted in a while. There are a few others I do watch. I think it's amazing all the different yarns they have, really opens my eyes to all the lovely yarn you can buy.

@kevin1877uk Yes. They're just songs recorded in my friend's garage, with still pictures added. Have you seen some of them?

Not directly I don't think so, but I could include my Etsy and the items I'm making and so on.

I haven't done any however I do know that certain things will make me X out and go elsewhere to learn something. Lightening so that you can really see and I really don't like it when they play music and make it hard to hear. Well that is all I got in advice.

Yes, I have over 100 videos on YouTube but I am not doing it to make money. I put them there for some of my relatives that live far from here to see and for the fun of it.

I bought a web camera for making youtube videos until I remembered I dislike hearing my voice. I scrapped that plan!

@kevin1877uk I don't mind if I'm using my demon voice and I can't see my face, but then, I haven't done that yet, so I don't really know what it sounds like. :P
All I know is that it terrifies most people that hear it. lol

I know it does matter to have good lighting, good microphones and a quality video recorder at your disposal. You might practice talking on a basic digital recorder to get your presentation working for you better. I know that we see ourselves in a mirror opposite the way others see us in daily life and the way our voice carries and sounds from our own perception is not at all the same as it sounds to other people. I practiced talking while looking at a reflection in a mirror of another mirror to see myself as others see me in daily life. It's one way of practicing public speaking.

@kevin1877uk , Find a room or for that matter, a large or medium closet. The acoustics are better in a small room for some reason. You can also use a blackboard or presentation drawing board on a tri-pod to illustrate things or use a projector on a screen to show images that relate to your presentation for relevant subject matter. A uni-directional microphone may be better to aim at your voice rather than an omni-directional microphone. And if possible you might consider closed captions for certain things and so on.
